The Del Sol was released in 1992 as the successor to the CR-X. I purchased mine in August 2003. I've put on about 20,000 miles, and nothing major has gone wrong with it, other than people crashing into it. Performance-wise, the previous owner put in a loud air filter which theoretically adds half a brake horsepower, but I don't see it. It's got VTEC, so the high revs are pretty exciting, but it's not as light as it looks. It can get from 0 to 60 in somewhere around 8-9 seconds, so it's not lighting any pavement on fire. However, that doesn't really matter. This car is fun to drive. It's low-slung for a Civic, it's got independent rear suspension, and takes bends with joy. Throwing this car around corners is a blast. Don't dare get this car with an automatic transmission. Despite the sporty costumery, this is still a Civic. Fuel economy is superb, the engine is due for another 100,000 miles, and the D16 engine used in this car remained in service with Honda Civics until the 2006 model year. It's got a spacious trunk as well, so this car serves well as a daily driver, just like the Civic. The looks have held up pretty well over time, the only awkward 90's bits are on the front end, especially the headlights, but overall pretty nice design from Honda.

A 1.6 with 158bhp, 8'000 revs. Can't go wrong really. Goes like a rocket, hold on to your hat when the vtec kicks in at 5'500 revs. 0-60 takes roughly 7 seconds, the amazing B16A2 never steps out of line. Build quality gets 4/5 only because of the leaking roof and boot but it is a 14 year old car so it is to be expected.

Well I have a LS vtec in it now and it is awesome. it is front wheel drive and it is so easy to work on it. Most del sols came with the single cam but mine came with dual cam shafts and a vtec system that is awesome.!

Beyond solid. After owning it 11 years and 140,000 miles, I have trouble remembering if I have even repaired anything on this vehicle...I may have replaced the alternator, but I think that was on one of my other Hondas. It could use a recharge on the AC, too, but I think that's normal for a 14 year-old second owner car. With the DOHC it is like a go cart, this little rocket surprises people all the time--my favorites to surprise are the Firebirds! I accelerate, they can't catch up, I take a corner and buh-bye. It's all they can do to get it up to 100 to catch me then finally blow by to try to make their point, a little too late; meanwhile I've put the car back on cruise control and changed CDs. I have some performance parts on, so if I drive like a maniac I get about 14 MPG, but if I act civilized, we're at about 38 hwy. The only reason I have not put top ratings on performance and appearance--it's just a compact car, not a Ferrari!
