No big changes were introduced for the 1993 Ford Aerostar. One innovation was the new option of integrated child safety seats, which folded out from the middle bench. Like many of the updates to the Aerostar during the '90s, this reflected Ford's vision of the midsize minivan as primarily a family transportation vehicle.
Another significant market niche for the '93 Aerostar were tradespeople and craftspeople, as well as owners of small businesses (antique dealers, for instance) who were looking for something with ample cargo space and more passenger comfort than your typical panel van. This market tended to opt for the Extended bodystyle, which offered almost 30 additional cubic feet of carrying capacity.
Trims available for the '93 Ford Aerostar were XL, XLT, and Eddie Bauer; a Sport appearance package, featuring alloy wheels and sportier trim and badging, was available for the XL and XLT trims.
The 1993 Aerostar came off the line with a 145-horsepower Vulcan V6 that put out 165 lb.-ft. of torque; buyers could upgrade to the 155-horsepower Cologne V6, which delivered 230 lb.-ft. of torque. The upside of this moderate power was impressive fuel efficiency, especially for a midsize minivan with a curb weight around 3400 pounds: the Aerostar rated at 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway.
Ford marketed the Aerostar with a focus on its reliability, comfort, toughness, and value. The sturdy van was well-suited to conversion for drivers with disabilities as well; wheelchair users and others found that the Aerostar was rugged enough to incorporate aftermarket modifications like lifts and ramps. You'll still see some Aerostars of this vintage out on the roads today!

It is a theory good van if you can still find them around. Both the all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive models are great. Change the oil and put in the necessary maintenance and they will last a very long time in my opinion.Feb 26, 2020

If I am ever to own another Aerostar I want it to be this, the 4.0L extened AWD
Eddie Bauer edition version. It is the best one there is, the AWD is excellent, the 4
captain chairs are incredibly comfortable, the ride could put you to sleep, it has
enough pep to hang with the big boys, and all for under $1000. If the tranny

Storage shed on wheels, fair highway economy 25+ mpg, very poor access to engine, definitely a step down from first Ford van that was a 1974 E300. Definitely not fun to drive. Purchase was a mistake. Wife's Toyota boring but reliable. Jun 07, 2011

Great Car. Excellent in the snow. Parts are cheap and easy to fix. Has plenty of power although overall weight is an issue.Added a trans cooler and upgraded radiator cause it tends to run real hot in the summer.Its fun to drive and has a unique front end specific to the grand prix of that year.Nov 05, 2010

Excellent van. Drives more like a truck than todays minivans since its built on the Ford Ranger Chassy. Bad gas mileage for a V6. Slow acceleration too. The 4x4 works wonders in the winter though. Very versatile and never had serious serious problemsAug 15, 2010

had the coolant line break recently and repaired it myself. brakes squeak time to time. lots of scratches and dents. interior vinyl is warped. gets decent gas mileage. fun to drive in the winter. alignment always needs to be readjusted.Jul 26, 2009

Best in it's class! This is a great overall mid-size van. If you want a nice looking, good performing, solid van for work or for yourself, and you don't want to spend over 30K on a new car, then this van's for you. I have one in silver which I got for 10K. Although it could use more power since it's only 6 cylinder 3.0L, the engine it does use is a WORKHORSE, and has been used overseas in industrial and commercial applications for several years. In China, they've had these engines driving belts that pull massive quarry loads. I have made a few modifications to increase overall hp. I also threw out the small tires it comes with and added larger, more robust looking tires. The ride on this van is excellent. The access cab has seats for two people that are good for long rides. after the first hundred thousand miles the trans will start not working right. You can hear the putter of the ford engine.. Sucks.. and the body will rust out. If the body doesn't rust then the doors don't work and they'll fall off. It does have good pull on it but to be honest, It liked getting stuck in sand *Like when sand was on the road and everything was dry* Going up hills from a dead stop was usually trouble.
I wouldn't recommend this car to Anyone! If you know how to take care of cars and you don't mind fixing things when they go, Have fun. This one will need attention as it gets closer to 150-175 thousand in miles. Engine was good, but parts to it... Not so much...Jul 14, 2008

This was my first drive. She was quite a car. She was super reliable,
getting about 190,000 mils before she went. I could always count on this
car to take me (and any riders) to where I needed to go. Too bad Ford
doesn't make this anymore. The Aerostar was their crown jewel as far as

Transmission wont shift into any foward gear for a long while, 10 minutes. Once in gear , no prob at all. If gear shifter is moved out of gear and back to foward , long wait. Fluid full. WTF??
