As Ford's attention turned to its new entry in the minivan market, the Windstar (launched in 1995 to great fanfare), the 1995 Aerostar continued in production. The '95 Ford Aerostar was the forgotten Cinderella of Ford's van offerings: a sturdy, reliable vehicle with a lot to offer, but whose many virtues were overlooked. The 1995 Ford Aerostar was a great value as well. Side-impact beams were added to all three doors, which added to the Aerostar's potential safety. Only the standard and XLT trims were offered for the '95 Aerostar; the Extended bodystyle was available on both. Even as Ford phased out the Aerostar in favor of the Windstar, there were still plenty of fans of the solid midsize minivan. Its roomy, comfortable cabin and 140+ cubic feet of cargo space (170 cubic feet on the Extended models) made it a favorite of families and small business owners with precious passengers and cargo to transport. The 1993 Aerostar came off the line with a 145-horsepower Vulcan V6 that put out 165 lb.-ft. of torque; buyers could upgrade to the 155-horsepower Cologne V6, which delivered 230 lb.-ft. of torque. The upside of this moderate power was impressive fuel efficiency, especially for a midsize minivan with a curb weight around 3400 pounds: the Aerostar rated at 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway.
