Designed from the outset to be Volkswagen's version of a sports car, the Corrado originally was equipped with a supercharged 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine that was borrowed from the Golf. But in 1992 VW added an SLC package powered by a new 2.8-liter V6. The intent was that, in fairly quick order, the V6 would replace the supercharged four-cylinder as the Corrado's standard engine.
In keeping with its sports car nature, the Corrado was equipped with a fairly generous list of high-end features, including a rear spoiler that automatically deployed itself when the car reached 45 miles per hour and automatically retracted when the car's speed fell below 12 mph. Other standard features included bucket seats, power heated mirrors, power windows, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, a trip computer, 15-inch allow wheels, air conditioning, and power door locks. Options included anti-lock brakes, leather seats, and a sunroof.
As expected, the Corrado's power and handling were among its positive points cited by drivers. There were even those who felt that the Corrado was one of the finest cars produced by Volkswagen. But others noted that old VW problems, such as frequent and expensive repairs, tended to creep in with the vehicle, muting its sports luxury pedigree.

pic is not the car i owned just one off the net same colour though
210bhp jabba stage 4 supercharged
performance was off its box , but teh noise/whine of the charger annoyed me & nothing else in orr on the car worked especialy the door handles in r out
wouldnt have another one , far to small inside & very heavey too Feb 18, 2010

what can i say its supercharged 225bhp very good acceleration top speed 152mph needs new front dises an pads 15 mpg when booting fun to drive wicked stero sounds good bird puller bargain its yours for 2grand delboy was hereJan 17, 2010

What i like about my corrado is that it is rare and fun do drive. Whenever i see another corrado i freak out cause it never happens. This car has been a learning experience for me, i do all my own repairs and even replaced the engine with a better faster one, so its pretty quick to say the least. Oct 06, 2009

The Corrado is a true enthusiasts' car. They are uncommon, unpopular, and maintenance nightmares. But if you love Volkswagens, then you know what a Corrado is and you probably want one. One of the first cars with the legendary VR6 and often referred to as the "Poor Man's Porsche." It handles well, drives well, and sounds amazing. It is also decently quick for a 90's coupe. around 7.4 second 0-60
good brakes, not overly sensitive like later model v-dubs.
got 90k on the odometer and the serpentine belt came off, obviously needing replacing.
Sexy car all around, and is quite rare considering it didn't sell well when it was originally being produced.
The gas mileage is around 20/25 mpg.
Owned for over a year and a half and haven't had any problems till recently.
This car is soo amazing to drive!!! It pulls like a demon in second gear, and the engine has enough power to satisfy my everyday needs. Jul 22, 2009

Performace - it was 2.0 16V, so it was terrible;
Build quality - it's VW, so it isn't bad;
Appearance - gorgeous even after 6 years of ownership;
cost of ownership - very reliable car;

Love the looks I get in this car. It is so unique and the design is timeless. People still wonder if it is a new car. I also love to drive the car, I would like to upgrade the motor to the new VR6 or add a turbo but even in it's current form it has plenty of power.Jun 04, 2009

The Supercharged Corrado is spectacular. Whilst there was a 2.9 V6 Corrado available, the G60 in my opinion has the edge from having equivelant performance with a much lighter block. After a few tweaks, this 16 year old car is as good as any modern car, if not better. The build quality is phenominal. I know this from being hit by a 40 ton lorry on the m4. And for me, it's the most beautiful car ever made.
The downside is of course cost. I average about 22mpg, plus it IS an aging car, though it has never broken down on me, a lot of servicable parts are reaching the end of their useful lives and as such, need replacing.
At the end of the day though, if you can afford to run a Corrado it's well worth it, it's a true modern classic with beautiful lines and truely brilliant performance.Dec 21, 2008

completely in a field of its own. really. sure its front drive, but a very torquey, sensual-sounding smooth vr6 that even in stock form is scary quick! it really is a complete package of handling (best), gearing (best), and sound (best) that vw has to offer, even today. Jun 08, 2008

Fun, fun, fun! Corrados are just a blast to drive. Everything you can ask for. The SLC with the VR6 engine has the horses, but a little weak on the reliability. Be prepared to spend a lot of money to maintain. The G60 supercharged engine is much more reliable.Feb 07, 2008

A classic waiting in the wind. Young enough to be good to drive but old enough to have been forgotten. Drives as well as, if not better than many modern cars. (top gear)
