1992 Pontiac Grand Prix Preview summaryImage

Marketed as an affordable, fuel economic car that doesn't skimp on performance and interior roominess, the 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix is versatile as a personal luxury car or a practical and comfortable family car. The 1992 Grand Prix can be driven as a sedan or a sporty coupe. This year, the V6 engines are all that's available in the Grand Am, as the Quad 4 bids farwell. Now standard on all but the GTP coupe is the 3.1-liter, 140-hp V6 with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic (3-speed on the LE). The sports-oriented GTP coupe features the twin cam 3.4-liter, 210-hp V6 (200-hp with the auto tran).
ABS becomes standard on both the SE and GTP coupe and the STE sedan, but still an option on the LE and SE sedan. All trims get the newly restyled front end already introduced on the STE. Though sold as a sedan, for easier access and more room, the STE provides a lot of performance power similar to the GTP coupe. It has a lot of luxuries, such as power driver's seat, remote entry, power mirrors, cruise control, and a trip computer. It can also be had with the 3.4 V6.
Owners of the 1992 Grand Prix love its roominess and say the seats are very comfortable with plenty of front legroom. The backseat is a bit more cramped. Plenty of standard features are a nice touch, as is the easy instrument layout. Performance is fast and smooth, with easy handling. Gas mileage is decent, making for an affordable car. On the downside are lots of mechanical and electrical problems, persistent brake wear, expensive repairs, and the ever-glowing fuel light indicator.

It performs better than you think it will, for an innocent-looking sedan No repairs/squeaks or rattles It is fine on appearance - looks like a company car and there is so much space it feels like one Cost of ownership - minimal cost to buy, gas I spend around £25 a week (but I don't use it every day so maybe I get 30 to the gallon). I love to drive her... she reacts so well for what looks like an exec/granny car! Jul 31, 2008
