Not starting
I have a 1992 Montero that won't start. I have fuel and spark so we just tried replacing the computer but it's still won't start. I had the fuel pump and filter done 8 mos ago and since the not starting issue began we have replaced the coil, distributer and now the computer. No luck it cranks like it wants to start just won't actually run. When the problem happened I started the truck backed out of my parking spot then began to to left to pull on to the street and it just turned off. Hasn't started since. There wasn't any sign of a problem just stopped working. I keep the oil changes up to date and have over the past 3 yrs replaced many things. So I don't want to give up on this truck. Any ideas or thoughts on what I might be missing?
When my 1992 Montero accelerates some times it will sputter like its trying to catch its breath.
I know that sounds crazy because vehicles don't breath but thats the best way to describe it or like it hiccups. It's worse when its on an upward incline. I've also noticed it having trouble when it's idling the RPMs will drop below 1 quickly like its going to die. It doesn't happen unless it's in Drive and warm. These problems are not noticeable to my passengers until today. I believe it is getting worse and more frequent so I'm not driving it much until I know I'm not doing more damage.
I have a 1992 Montero that won't shift without letting off the gas
When I first started driving the truck I noticed the RPMs would reach almost 4 before it would shift from one gear to the next. I finally figured out I could let my foot off the gas pedal at 3 and a 1/2 and it would shift. That was in June and it was only from 3rd to 4th gear. Now it has a hard time but will shift from 1st to 2nd not too smoothly though. As for 2nd to 3rd I need to let of the gas. Now I'm beginning to think its not even shifting from 3rd to 4th so I avoid freeways and highways with a speed limit over 40 mph. I've had a tune-up and my timing adjusted with no change. Is it a transmission problem?
I have a 1992 Montero that recently started making the strangest noise.
I noticed this water noise coming from the dashboard area about 9-10 days ago. It started out really quiet but it's getting louder each day. I don't see a leak (aside from the noticeable oil leak) or any missing hoses. Its as if water is trapped inside the dash board above the steering column. It doesn't happen every time I drive and I can't seem to figure out what triggers it. At first I thought it only happened while accelerating slowly (like in a parking lot) then I thought it was worse when I was driving up hill. However its happening more often and not just on an incline.
