1992 Lexus LS Preview summaryImage

The Lexus LS 400 returned totally unchanged for its third model year, but significant revisions were on the way for 1993. This year, the LS and ES series sedans were joined by the new SC series sports coupe, in an effort to provide Lexus with a more performance-minded offering. The GS sports sedan would follow in 1993. These new additions were perhaps a concession that the seemingly perfect LS could not be all things to all drivers. Because the Lexus sedan was so quiet and refined, some adventurous drivers were not provided with the thrills that a comparably priced German sports sedan might offer. Power was not an issue. The LS 400 featured a 4.0 liter DOHC V-8, which made 250 horsepower and provided 260 pound-feet of torque. Despite an almost 4000 pound curb weight, the LS gracefully moved from 0 to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds. Above all, the LS 400 was marked for its ride quality. The potent engine was teamed with a smooth-shifting four speed automatic electronic transmission, and the LS's large body seemed to glide atop the optional adaptable air suspension system. In the first three years, A/C compressor problems and climate control display failures were reported as common hiccups. Aside from those issues, many LS owners described the extent of their maintenance routine as a regular oil change and occasional tune-up. Countless driving impressions, almost entirely positive, had defined the LS 400 as a quiet, comfortable, and effortless highway cruiser. Lexus now had the SC and GS to provide the thrills, and the LS 400 could continue to do what it did best.

Just got it, very comfortable car, seems in pretty good condition for the year, something seems wrong with the brakes, they pull the car to one side, right when i step on them, but then feel normal, also sometimes, the open door lights come on when driving. And the check engine light is on, was told it was from a bad egr valve, i plan on confirming this. other than that, i've always read that this car is super reliable, that's why i got it.Dec 11, 2013
