Following its introduction in 1990, the 1991 Volkswagen Passat arrived in showrooms with very few changes. Switches from the optional power windows were moved from the upper door panel to the armrest, and a display that indicated the gear for the optional automatic transmission was added to the instrument cluster.
The rest of the package remained unchanged. Power was provided by a 2.0-liter, twin-cam, 4-cylinder engine that generated 134 hp. It was coupled with a five-speed manual overdrive transmission, which was standard. A four-speed automatic was available as an option.
Standard features included power brakes, air conditioning, a rear-window defroster, a tilt steering wheel, bucket seats, and 14-inch wheels. Options included power door locks, leather seats, a sunroof, anti-lock brakes, and a cassette player.
Drivers' reviews were mixed for the Passat, especially for early-'90s models that now have high mileage. Some drivers noted very few problems with the cars, even with the odometer pushing 200k, while others reported numerous repair problems. In particular, drivers noted problems with the Passat's automatic transmission. Repairs also were expensive, drivers reported.

Dies ist ein schöner, schneller, nutzerfreundlicher Wagen. Hat viel Platz für Gepäck und Passagiere! Die Leistung ist zwar ausreichend aber könnte immer etwas mehr sein(man gewöhnt sich zu schnell daran).
Der 2,8L läuft sowohl aof Benzin als auch auch Autogas, das macht bei den heutigen Spritpreisen viel aus!

This is a beautiful, fast, user-friendly car. Has plenty of room for luggage and passengers! The performance is adequate but could always be more (you get used to it quickly).
The 2.8 L is aof both petrol and LPG even that is making today's petrol prices a lot!

well it's a 1.6TD GL, it has a garrett T2 turbocharger with
intercooler. 14" Alloy rims(need to be changed for16"or
17"), "Boge turbo" suspension,"Sachs", hella half smoked
tail lights, Pioneer sound system, Plasma white face
gauges ;) with a carbon around them. coming soon: front
mount intercooler,K24 turbo, twin carbon intake filters,
lowring the car,and black dual DE inpro head lights with

My favoritest car i ever owned room tightly build aside from the poorly built distributor almost like a starter bmw same basic layout in the interior sporty my favorite thing that was i could go around corners that i would normally go 40km i could hit 90kms without having the tires squeel and as apart from the poorly designed over drive and losing a gear the car would still go 185km/hr after spending 12000 rebuilding the engine transmission breaks and adding a few more hp is a fun ride and i wish that i never parted with it but what is done is done now and would love to own one againOct 04, 2009

performance: lazy... breaks well and has a good top speed. so far i'm guessing around 210kph, but i havn't got it past 200. all i know is that it was still accelerating. 0-100kph, (0-62mph) is under 12 seconds. thats not good for all you not car people.
build: my car was built tough. some of the interior parts are a bit fiddley, but most of the car is metal and its holding together great at almost 350,000kms. although i hear bad things about the automatic gearbox cars. apparently they were made at a different plant.
appearence: google it. sucks, but at least its not ugly. just not good either.
cost: dosn't use much gas when driven properly. which i don't, lol. and most of the parts i've put into it were optional. so someone who just needed an A-B car wouldn't had to have spent anything.
fun: its fun on the right kind of road. it handles really well, like a BMW or Audi. it just dosn't push you back into your seat, but damn its fun to take corners fast. although i have to say i have to go double the speed around most corners to have fun, compared to my 87 corolla. Performance- decent in town acceleration, and smooth handling, solid build but not sporty
Build Quality- clean looking engine but squeaks an rattles, auto locks with key turn & power windows
Appearance- no rust on a White 4door 1991 is a good thing
Cost of ownership- $2500 2 years ago I am currently @ 320,000 thousand km ( Seems like the odometer was unplugged)
Fun Factor - this car in AUTO is NOT fun to drive- it's a retirement cruiser or good family ride, but it's not cheap on fuelJul 09, 2009

I am a Volkswagen enthusiast and mechanic and have had over 30 VW's and or Porsche's. This by far was the worst. I loved 16V engines until I actually owned one. It burned more oil than gas, smoked like the TDI passat, and it was just a bear to work on. The interior was somewhat comfy with the leather seats, but the interior trim was cheap and falling apart. This car was abused before I got it and it cost me a lot of money and time to get it right and when I couldnt get it right, I had to offload it and lose a bunch of cash.Jul 23, 2008

My 91 Passat is having some issues right now my emergency flashers come on when ever they want even when the car is off, started coming on when I open a door also the dash information is on even when car is off until the battery dies but once you put a charge or jump the car the flashers start up again what could be going on?
