1991 Audi 100 Preview summaryImage

Audi has always prided itself on standing for German excellence and innovative automotive techniques. The Audi 100 was the first commercial sedan to introduce the quattro system of distributing power over all four wheels, thereby ensuring better traction and stability, making the Audi not only synonymous with luxury, but safety as well.

The 1991 Audi 100 continued this tradition of offering luxurious comfort with a sturdy, solid, well-balanced driving experience. Available in either a 4-speed automatic base sedan or 5-speed manual quattro AWD, the Audi 100 sported a 2.3-liter, 5-cylinder, 130-hp engine that was surprisingly fast for such a big and heavy car. Many features that would be extras in comparably-sized cars were standard in the Audi 100, including cruise control, power heated mirrors, a power sunroof, power windows and locks, ABS brakes, and a security system.

No one buys an Audi for its affordability, and when it comes time for repairs, you should be prepared to spend a lot for parts. So say owners who have gone through the painful experience. This and a sluggish acceleration which takes a while to kick in are the major complaints of 1991 Audi 100 owners. On a positive note, drivers love the way the Audi 100 handles and that, despite its size and engine power, it is so quiet. A large comfortable interior with plenty of standard luxuries make long car trips enjoyable. And the sturdiness of the quattro all-wheel drive goes through snow and ice like a knife through butter.

I wanted so bad to like this car, but alas it was a piece of rubbish. It nickle and dimed me to death in the 2 years I owned it. And parts weren't cheap or easy to come by. The build quality was good, but the parts used weren't always the model of longevity. On the positive side, it handled exceptionally well. The steering had good weight and great road feel. The interior was roomy and comfortable and had a huge trunk. It had a comfortable ride and was quiet except for a bit of road and engine noise. It got 25 mpg. Always. City. Highway. 25 mpg. And it was a safe car...it protected my brother in a 35+ mph head on collision. The airbag and seatbelt tensioners did their job and he walked away with minor injuries.Sep 05, 2008

Quiet, comfortable with a good amount of power - the five cylinder 2.3 engine was a dreamJan 10, 2008
