New trim and car configuration options top the list of changes for the 1992 Audi 100. Previously only available in a four-door sedan, in either front-wheel drive or the AWD quattro, in 1992 the Audi 100 offered three trim level sedans. The base STD, the 100S and CS, and CS AWD quattro sedan all came with standard 5-speed manual transmission. New in 1992 was a CS quattro wagon with 4-speed automatic. It represented a milestone for Audi in that it was the first quattro vehicle to come standard with an auto tran. All trims got an engine upgrade to a 2.8-liter, 172-hp V6 engine, which replaced the 5-cylinder 2.3-liter.

Though just the base model, the STD came with many standard features. The S and CS built upon those and added more comforts, such as fog lights, center console, power adjustable front seats (with memory in the CS), leather seats, a trip computer, a ski bag, and keyless entry. The interior luxury translated to exterior luxury as well, with an aerodynamically rounded profile that seemed both modern and classic.

There are many things to like about the 1992 Audi 100, and drivers point to its durability, solidity on the road, and light handling as giving them confidence behind the wheel. The roomy interior and comfortable seats add to the driving pleasure. A big highlight is how quiet the Audi 100 is, with virtually no engine noise, rattle, or squeaks, and limited road noise. The biggest negative for the Audi is how expensive it is to maintain and repair.
