Despite being an ugly tin can, I actually loved this car. It was quick and nimble. I'll never forget the day the clutch tensioner broke (had to perform some manual transmission magic to get it home) and especially trying to close the driver door in the rain which required sticking your hand between the window and door and lifting up while slamming the door.Aug 17, 2009

This clunker was a hand-me-down from my brother, who adopted it from my late grandfather. There wasn't really anthing good about it, other than that it was free. Its engine was an asthmatic, carburated hunk of junk, its suspension did nothing but keep it upright, its automatic transmission was dull and unresponsive, and its brakes felt as econo-box as they could get. Not only was the exterior a sad knock-off of better Japanese hatchbacks, but it was this lame, ambiguous, blue-green-gray color. It might have turned out decent gas mileage, if it weren't chronically malfunctioning. It was hard to get started, and then if you stepped on the gas, it would kill. I actually drove through stop signs with this bucket of bolts because I knew it would be difficult to get it going again. A Car I bought cheap to say I owned a convertible. If it was in good codition I bet it would of been an Ok car. Performance is Ok but They drink petrol like Father Jack in Father Ted. The engines are hardy if looked after, which mine wasn't- hence it broke terminally. but parts are easy to find. They look good when not ravaged by rust. The roof is not so weather proof, I recommend something to catch the water on the front seats. It was Ok to drive but the body flexed as it has no roof for rigidity. bought an 18-month old car from friend as my 18th birthday present to myself. After the Allegro everything was going to be good, but this was incredible. Right in the middle of the mid-80s 'hot hatch' era and was bettered only by the RS2000 and Ford Capri Turbo. Fast (for its time), 0-60 in about 8 seconds and I got it up to 130mph indicated. Good brakes and tweaked suspension could handle it. No ABS or TC in those days though!Jan 06, 2008
