1980 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Reviews, Pricing & Specs

Originally this car was a V-6, a school kids car, but that kid let it sit and got covered with leaves, snow and dirt, when I decided to rescue it and then put a 454 CID Eng on Steroids, among other power additives, Lil Monte is a real Ground Grabber, and is sort of a sleeper, but you don't want to awaken Mighty Mouse to put on a Gun Show wooo-weeee so much fun to leave people behind a True Street Machine.Jul 06, 2011

Well the car was siting for 5yrs sense the brakes went out, but this summer me and a friend started working on it a little by little, first the front brakes then the back brakes. Then after those we had to replace one Brake line. After that we replaced all the spark plugs then one belt and the engine coolants hose. After that we replaced 3 of the lights new plates and tags cleaned the interior did some work in there myself. Now we need to drive it too a shop and see why the drivers back brake is leaking, were also getting an oil change. But the car runs great on 5yr old gas we really need to get rid, it also needs the radio fixed and the the Old AC juice sucked out... but other wise its a great car. it also has a 305 engine in it. the engine was replaced in the 90s after my sister blew it up.. so they put a 305 in it.. so basically a new engine. Under the Hood: - sbc 350, 600 cfm edelbrock carb, flowtech raptor mufflers, headman headers, mild comp cam, Body and Frame: - only a couple tiny rust spots on the rear quarter pannel. dented rear quarter pannel, scraped metal by the head light/front quarter pannel. Frame is solid, no rust at all. - 4 new shocks and 4 new coil springs Stock interior, hoping to put some bucket seats in and get rid of the column shifter. Only thing left to do is get my carb. adjusted and make sure its hooked up right, and get the car painted.Mar 29, 2010

Have a Fuel/Air issue with the engine right now, just bought a new carb, and will be working on it until next summer. Rebuilt 350 CID V8, 600 cfm Edelbrock Electric Choke Carb, Comp. Cams Camshaft & Lifters, Headman Headers, 2 1/4" Dual Exhaust, Flowtech Raptor Mufflers.I need some new shocks and coil springs, and maybe a new alternator. - Work In Progress - Nov 27, 2009

It was a warm, sunny June afternoon when our eyes first met as she slowly, gently stepped down the ramps of the delivery trailer. She was a beautifully finished '80 Monte Carlo wearing a richly applied coat of the deepest, darkest claret metallic. Her shapely limbs were long and curvey and seductively graced with fine strands of tantalizingly applied gold pinstriping. I was awestruck. I couldn't unglue my eyes from her beautiful body as she struck a muscular pose in the small parking area beside the sales office of the same store where, eight years earlier, I'd met Brown Sugar, the chocolatey '72 Vega who'd stolen my innocence, my money, and my freedom before blowing her head gasket and dying of rust cancer. But, the Monte was a different sort of gal. She was no rice burning puddle jumper; rather, she was glamourous and upscale and a head-turner and I wondered if I were a good enough catch for her. I wasted no time and quickly entered office to learn if she would have me. There was but another suitor but I was in luck for I knew the store owner and he confirmed our engagement. A few days later I returned to the altar and sealed the deal of a relationship that has endured for more than a quarter century. Technically, the 205-70/14 Uniroyal whitewalls were undersized and quickly wore out. Over the years, I upgraded to a round of 245-60/14 Dunlops that fill out the wheelwells in a nice, chunky, satisfying sort of way. The third metric 200 tranny seems to have solved the initial annoyance of harsh engagement. Every 90,000 miles, the upper bushing of the distributor shaft wears out causing the engine to ping at cruising speed. The car has been hit a few times sustaining minor damage from assaults of lesser vehicles. All of the body work is complete with the exception of a gentle hit to the left front fender between the wheelwell and the doorjamb. This was a bit of good luck because in the process of reforming the metal, I was able to clear the debris from the parking brake cable, reactivating that feature in time for the car to pass a New Jersey inspection. The headliner insulation has melted away and the liner hangs limply where it is unsupported by the plastic chicken wire that we inserted to buttress the fabric. Some day we'll figure out whether to replace the headliner or simply tear it down and live without it. The instrument panel lights have stopped glowing one by one over the years. I believe the problem is the ageing of the circuit card behind the instrument pod and not the bulbs. The electric clock froze in time many years ago. It needs a good cleaning. The little indicator for the transmission selector popped a spring several years back and now, the indicator remains in Park no matter what gear you are in. We rebuilt the carburetor about 16 years ago and it remains fully functionaly but the vacuum break adjustment could be reset so that the engine will start on the first try rather than cough and require a restart. Some day, we dream of restoring and modifying her into a one-of-a kind beauty: an all wheel drive saloon--the Monte Cargo--which would combine the lines of the Monte with the utility of a sport wagon. We'd fancy the same sort of rear end styling applied to the old Chevy Nomad. Calling Chip Foose? But, would she have me the junior executive stepped down off the rallye wheels was backed down off the delivery truck and parked in the small lot beside the sales office in Flushing, Queens. I got my Monte Carlo when I was 15 years old, 3 engines 6 trans,5 rear ends, 2 complete color changes, 4 different sets of rims, interior swap & numerous upgrades and I love it more than ever. These cars have a attitude about them that very few cars have. Kind of like a pretty girl that is a kickboxer or something. Most people like the chevelle's,camero's,bel air's but hell there are 10 million of those out there. I wish their was parts out there for them though, that is the only thing that sucks about them.Oct 18, 2006
