1973 Audi 80 Preview summaryImage

Sold in the U.S. as the Audi Fox, the 1973 Audi 80 was already a big hit over in Europe, for its combination of comfort, performance, fuel economy, and affordability (at least in comparison to the Audi 100). Over here the 1973 Audi 80/Fox featured a new 1.5-liter, 75-hp I4 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The front-wheel drive coupe or sedan highlighted strong performance, expert engineering, and a fairly roomy interior. The innovative negative steering roll radius feature provided more stability with loss of traction. The 1973 Audi 80 actually won the European Car of the Year award, and its introduction over here helped pave the way for the Audi nameplate and boost sales for the somewhat flagging Volkswagen.
