The Audi 80 was always a popular car, prized for its dependability, speed, comfortable ride, easy handling, and the security of its sturdy frame. Despite its somewhat large size, it displayed incredibly light performance. 1992 marked the last year for the Audi 80 and its more upscale partner, the Audi 90.
The 1992 Audi 80 said its farewell by making ABS brakes standard on all models, both the front-wheel drive and AWD quattro sedan. The 2.3-liter, 5-cylinder, 130-hp engine, though sluggish when first accelerating, kicked in powerfully at higher speeds, besting comparable cars in its class. In addition, the Audi won in the creature comfort categories, offering features that you'd expect only in a more high-end model. These included cruise control, power windows and locks, fog lights, power heated mirrors, rear defrost, and air conditioning. Heated seats and power sunroof were optional. The quattro added standard rear spoiler and sports suspension to go along with its all-wheel drive capbility. Audi was as much concerned about ride comfort as it was about stability and performance.
Drivers love the quattro features and the versatility of driving options it gives them, along with its sturdy handling. Most owners feel very safe in the Audi 80, even if they are in an accident. They Audi is comfortable for long rides, making it a great family car.

(34 reviews)I loved this car, quality of build and engineering was superb and did not cost me a penny in any repairs as it was soo reliable! Petrol consumption was good and comfort was great for long drives. Car is fun to drive when needed! Pity someone crashed in to us and wrote the car off! So a very safe car as well!
Performance: acceleratio, braking and handling ok Build Quality: repairs: July2010: radiator;no squeeks or rattles Appearance: driver seat front edge looks used, exterior: some scratches around door lock Costs: gas mileage 22 in average, maintenance few times but when Audi-typically premium Fun factor: 4 stars
Very good handling, nice brakes but a week engine - only 75HP. High quality car with reliable parts. Interior is very nice designed, and the exterior is designed in the 1990's spirit. It has good gas mileage, and is very affordable for maintenance. It isn't the best drivers car, but with a right driver it can also be fun.
Audi 80 2.0l 16v Sport Avant Probably got too much of a soft spot for thsi car as i was in the family got 10 years before I got it. Borrowed it some time before it finally came to me and loved it. A good jump from my Golf. From 213,000 - 240,000 miles in my hands, and a trip to the Nurburgring a few months before the end. Performance - When it was new, even new to the family, it was fast. Given some 10 years and 150,000 miles it was starting to drop off. Still fast and handled really well for an estate. Build Quality - 2 spot of rust bubbles no bigger than 2p piece in 15 years. Generally well build and solid car. Eventually Heater matrix was its downfall, engine still in a garage after it was scrapped. Apperance - Never dated in my opinion, always looked good on the road and still makes me smile to see a 2l 16v on the road. Cost of Ownership - Not cheap, but far from expensive. Probably expensive for my means at the time, Heater Matrix fitting cost too much hence it was scrapped for parts, consumables (discs/pads/tyree) were quite cheap, major parts a bit more expensive. 30-35 mpg on average. Fun Factor - Great fun, on track it handled better than msot estate cars and at the Nurburgring survived a spin in the wet although it lacked power up hill. 'Ring notes - fastest lap 11:13.6, spin at Kallenhard with poor rear tyres on 1st lap. Pointed out that "if it'll survive this, it'll survive forever" while on track. Reccomended as a cheap, well built load carrier. If it hadnt been the 3x the cost of the part to fix the heat matrix (£300 labour) i'd still be driving it.
Most driven car, still keeps great memories. The 2.0 90hp engine had pretty poor performance but still had enough power to feel nice when driving. Had it for exactly 3 years before I rear-ended a guy and totalled the car.
