1971 Ford Thunderbird Preview summaryImage

The 1971 Ford Thunderbird was the last of the 'Glamor Bird' models, nicknamed for their sleek, stylish lines. Very few changes were made to the design, except for a slight toning down of the 1970 TBird's pointy v-grille.

This classic performance car looks so gorgeous to us today that it's hard to imagine why Ford felt the need to redesign it. However, it wasn't necessarily the easiest sell at the time. Ford wasn't quite sure how to position the T-Bird: was it a muscle car? A sports car? Or was it a suburban sedan?

Under the hood, there was no question. With its 7.0 liter V-8 engine putting out 360 horsepower, the '71 Ford Thunderbird was muscle all the way. Quick acceleration and ease of handling made the '71 Thunderbird a street racer's favorite, and plenty of them made their way to stock tracks as well.

The 1971 Thunderbird was the last of an era. If you can find one out there, you've got a project for life (not to mention the envy of everyone you know). Is it wrong to have a crush on a machine? Not if it's a Thunderbird!

overall i like everything about this car except for the hydro-wipe system.itis the only thing that has given me problems.the 427thunder-jet engine is a real performer. i like that ford had retained the wrap-around rear seats the car drives very smooth. it almost compares to my 66 bird. braking could be a little smoother, had replaced front end rubbers and rides very smooth, great body lines. overall very fun to drive with quick acceleration, smooth handling.Jan 13, 2011
