2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse Reviews, Pricing & Specs

I just took over this car from my brother's estate, he used it as a commuter car. We cleaned it up to sell it, found a buyer, and I thought to myself, I would like to own this car at this price! So I bought it myself. Not having had a sporty car for myself for years, I love the 5-speed and good acceleration and handling. It's very comfy and easy to drive, although, at 6 foot 2, I have to duck my head to get into the drivers seat. It's not a Corvette, but it sure is fun, and seems to be very well built. My 2000 RS has 140,900 miles. Another thing that convinced me I should own it, I got it smogged, and the smog pro told me it was so clean it did not even register meaningful smog in the exhaust! Mitsubishi must be doing something right, after 140k miles, to have an engine run that well.Jan 24, 2013

This V6 has great acceleration. Although it takes premium gas, the mileage is great if you know how to drive a manual transmission. This had been my second eclipse, I had a 1995. Would have bought a 3rd, but did not like the styling on the new ones. Also these cars go well down the road if you treat them well and maintain them the way suggested. Always changed the oil on time and proper maintenance done.Jul 29, 2012

The acceleration is pretty good with a couple mods, upgraded breaks, handling is decent. It doesn't require that much work. but after 9 years the struts do clunk a little bit. The appearance is alright, i didnt keep mine stock because i wasn't too much of a fan of it stock. It gets a average of about 25-26 mpg. It's a fun car to drive, even better if it was stick.Sep 28, 2009

This car is very fun to drive. Acceleration is quick, braking is fast but smooth, and handling is very nice. My Eclipse has over 85,000 but is still very solid. It has some minor problems like the front windshield sprayer tube became disconnected somewhere and the radio gets a weak signal. The thing I dislike the most is the factory paint job. The paint is cracking and pealing where the sun hits it the most. I am hoping to get a new paint job soon. It has good gas mileage since it is a small car. Overall it's a pretty nice carJun 23, 2009

The Mitsubishi Eclipse 2000 GT Sporty is a car I take pride in owning. The car holds a very specific job and it is for people who know what they want. It is a very small car and it seats about two people and maybe a half of a person if you were to cut off their arms and legs and head. It is undoubtedly a good looking car with a fairly nice interior. Problems I have seen include slow window motors, a slow or sticking sunroof, a dysfunctional horn, and a slow electric seat. I have had no problems with the stock 4-disc CD changer. The sound system is mediocre and requires upgrade to be anything worth talking about. The biggest disappointment is the engine. The engine in the Eclipse is a 3.0L V6 SOHC formally called the 6G72. Power output for one of these puppies in an Sporty averages around 160 at this time. The car isn't a dog, but it sure isn't going to give you the tingle you get from a V8. The other big letdown this car provides is a reputation for yielding very bad gains from modifications. Don't expect to buy this car and turn it into a 13 second car with anything but 10 grand. On the upside, when Mitsubishi made the 6G72, they made one Hell of an engine as far as endurance goes. I have owned many cars, and this one is STILL on my mind! It was great in the snow and ice (apart from the fact that it is low to the ground). It was fun, fast, and sporty. I always got compliments on mine while sitting at a red light. I miss my old Eclipse! It was definitely one of the best cars I have ever had. However, my only complaint was the interior fabric, it was almost velvety and I am not a fan of that kind of fabric, I should've gotten leather!Sep 06, 2008
