Is the Porsche Cayenne a good car?
Yes — the Porsche Cayenne is a strong choice if you want a luxury SUV with a performance-first personality and broad appeal across generations. The all-generations owner rating is 4.65/5 across every model year in the data.

27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Porsche Cayenne models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently point to the Cayenne’s strong build quality, refined cabin, and performance that feels polished and confident. Across the model years in the data, it also earns praise for sturdy construction and a driving experience that feels more special than most luxury SUVs.
- Owners rate the Porsche Cayenne between 4.5 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the long-term ownership picture is best approached with a careful inspection and a full history report, since maintenance and repair costs can be significant over time.
What should I look for when buying a used Porsche Cayenne?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 83.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 99.3% |

| 2017 | 68.3% |
| 2016 | 68.4% |
| 2015 | 66.7% |
| 2014 | 64.9% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2019 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: The 2025 Cayenne includes parking sensors, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring.
- Infotainment: The 2025 Cayenne includes the Porsche Communication Management system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: 15 miles per gallon in the city, 21 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg combined.
Which Porsche Cayenne trim should I buy?
The 2025 Porsche Cayenne offers these trims:
- Cayenne: The base model gives you the Cayenne’s core performance character and is the best-value starting point if you want the Porsche experience without stepping up to a higher-performance version.
- Cayenne GTS: This trim adds a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, 493 hp, 486 lb-ft of torque, 21-inch wheels, bronze exhaust tips, high-gloss black trim, and a more athletic setup that suits you if you want the sweet spot between everyday comfort and serious performance.
- Cayenne Turbo GT: This top performance trim brings 650 hp and the most extreme output in the lineup, making it the choice if you want maximum urgency and the most aggressive Cayenne character.
What Porsche Cayenne do most buyers choose?
The Porsche Cayenne years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 1,144 | 28.8% |
| 2023 | 1,107 | 28.4% |
| 2025 | 1,001 | 28.7% |
| 2022 | 990 | 28.6% |
| 2020 | 683 | 29% |
| 2026 | 679 | 28.6% |
Those higher-volume model years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right price and equipment mix. They also usually reflect the years shoppers are cross-shopping most actively, which helps keep selection broad.
What is the Porsche Cayenne's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | $89,733 | −32.46% |
| 2020 | $33,725 | −21.76% |
| 2019 | $30,705 | −14.93% |

| 2025 | $103,249 | +2.52% |
| 2015 | $21,685 | +4.92% |
Most model years in the table are down year over year, which creates opportunities for used buyers looking for stronger value. A few years are still rising, so the Cayenne’s pricing picture is mixed rather than uniformly falling. The biggest drops are concentrated in recent and mid-cycle years, while the smallest changes are clustered at the low end of the range.
The 2015, 2025, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Porsche Cayenne safe?
- 2025: 7/10
For the safest used buy, the 2025 model posts the highest confirmed score of 7/10.
Should I buy a used Porsche Cayenne now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2024 model is at −32.46% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −9.95%.
- Deal availability: The 2024 model has 28.8% good and great deals, and the 2023 model has 28.4%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $89,733. The Porsche Cayenne offers a refined cabin, strong road presence, and the kind of upscale driving character that makes it feel special every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The base 3.0-liter V6 is good for 348 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque, the Cayenne S with its V8 produces 468 hp, and the Turbo GT has 650 hp.
- Tech: The curved 12.6-inch digital gauge cluster is standard, and the 12.3-inch touchscreen display running the Porsche Communication Management system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Safety: Porsche doesn’t go all-out on standard safety features. Sure, parking sensors, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, but you’ll pay extra for adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning.
- Starting price: The base 2025 Porsche Cayenne starts at $86,695 including $1,995 for delivery.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2027 inventory to mature.

Overview

It’s hard to fathom what a splash the Porsche Cayenne made when it first arrived for the 2003 model year. Porsche, the German auto manufacturer of the iconic rear-engine 911 sports car, was suddenly in the business of building a family-friendly SUV? The Cayenne quickly proved–quite literally–that a functional SUV didn’t mean sacrificing driving excitement and high performance. Porsche gave the Cayenne a comprehensive redesign for the 2019 model year.
What’s New for 2023
Porsche is known for continually improving and refining its lineup of coupes, sedans, and SUVs. With this being said, the Cayenne enters the 2023 model year with no notable changes or updates. It continues to be available in four primary trim levels: base Cayenne, S, GTS, and Turbo.
Design
It should come as no surprise that moving up to higher performing trims brings along extra design flourishes like large alloy wheels, carbon fiber exterior trim, and more aggressive front and rear styling. The base Cayenne is hardly a shrinking violet, however. It comes standard with LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, and 21-inch alloys are available as part of the Platinum Edition option package. These larger wheels are standard on upper trims such as the GTS and Turbo. While it's not the newest luxury SUV on the block, the Cayenne’s clean and uncluttered shape should mean it ages well compared to trendier rivals.
Powertrain
There are a total of four engine choices across the Cayenne lineup. The base Cayenne engine consists of a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 that makes 335-horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. As with every Cayenne, it comes paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive (AWD).
The Cayenne S is equipped with a 2.9-liter twin turbocharged V6 that produces 434 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. Next, the Cayenne GTS is kitted out with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that makes 453 hp and 457 pound-feet of torque. And at the top of heap, the Cayenne Turbo is equipped with the same 4.0-liter V8, though output is cranked up to 541 hp and 567 pound-feet of torque. In this configuration, the Cayenne Turbo takes less than four seconds to accelerate from zero to 60 mph.
Interior
Given that the Cayenne is Porsche’s range-topping SUV, it comes equipped with a wide range of comfort features. This includes leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable front seats, a power liftgate, and a split-folding rear seatback. Upgrades consist of heated and ventilated front seats with a massage function, quad-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, soft-close doors, heated rear seats, and a panoramic sunroof, to name only a few.
Technology
A 12.3-inch touchscreen serves as the hub of the Cayenne’s infotainment system. It comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, four USB ports, and a 10-speaker stereo. Audiophiles take note, the sound system can be upgraded to either a rich sounding 14-speaker Bose unit, or a booming 21-speaker Burmester surround-sound system. To keep rear-seat occupants from getting bored during longer journeys, Porsche also offers a rear-seat entertainment system that consists of dual 10.1-inch screens.
