Customer summary
Overall, Jeep Wrangler owners across all model years express strong enthusiasm for their vehicles, particularly praising their off-road capabilities, rugged design, and fun driving experiences. Many appreciate the iconic styling and the ability to customize their Wranglers. However, common criticisms include poor fuel economy, limited cargo space, and occasional discomfort during longer drives. While the Wranglers are loved for their adventurous spirit, some owners wish for more modern features and improved reliability in certain models.

Is the Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — the Jeep Wrangler earns strong owner approval across its full run, and its appeal is anchored by a 4.55/5 all-generations owner rating.
The Wrangler consistently wins praise for its off-road capability, rugged design, and fun driving experience. Owners also repeatedly value its iconic styling and customization potential, which help give it a distinctive character that stands out from more conventional SUVs.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2023 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs that come up most often are poor fuel economy, noisy highway manners, and a cramped back seat. Those are the kinds of compromises you accept when you prioritize trail ability and open-air versatility.
35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Jeep Wrangler models reliable?
Owners consistently praise the Wrangler for its rugged character, off-road capability, and fun driving experience. Expert commentary also points to the model’s strong personality and trail-ready hardware as core strengths that keep it appealing over time.
- Owners rate the Jeep Wrangler between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by choosing a well-kept example and checking history carefully, especially on older model years.
What should I look for when buying a used Jeep Wrangler?

| 2017 | 69.8% |
| 2016 | 65.1% |
| 2015 | 64% |
| 2014 | 62.9% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2019 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking become standard on the Sport S trim, while blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist become standard at the Rubicon X trim level.
- Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard.
- Fuel efficiency: The Wrangler with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine is the most fuel-efficient, with an EPA combined rating of 21 mpg in both the two- and four-door body styles.
Which Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler offers these trims:
- Sport: The entry trim keeps the Wrangler’s rugged, minimalist character and is the starting point for the lineup.
- Sport S: This trim adds adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, making it the best-value choice for buyers who want more everyday convenience.
- Willys: This version adds a more distinctive appearance and sits in the middle of the range for shoppers who want extra character.
- Rubicon: This trim adds the off-road-focused hardware and capability that define the Wrangler’s trail-ready side.
- Rubicon X: This top trim adds the most advanced safety content in the lineup, including blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist.
- Willys ’41: This special edition adds unique styling details, including a special army green finish, matching painted wheels, and a ’41 hood graphic.
- 85th Anniversary Edition: This four-door-only edition adds commemorative styling and sits above the mainstream trims.
- Sahara: This four-door-only trim adds a more upscale presentation within the Wrangler lineup.
- Willys 392: This four-door-only model adds V8-powered performance.
- Moab 392: This four-door-only model adds V8-powered performance with a special-edition focus.
What Jeep Wrangler do most buyers choose?
The Jeep Wrangler years with the most listings are 2021, 2022, and 2020.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 8,934 | 37% |
| 2022 | 8,783 | 38% |
| 2020 | 8,186 | 36% |
| 2019 | 8,183 | 34.4% |
| 2018 | 7,911 | 34.1% |
| 2017 | 7,758 | 34.1% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they offer a strong mix of availability, familiar Wrangler character, and pricing that still leaves room for shoppers to compare trims and equipment. More listings also usually mean more chances to find the right color, mileage, and condition.
What is the Jeep Wrangler's resale value?

| 2015 | $16,217 | −7.51% |
| 2023 | $34,718 | −6.57% |

The 2023, 2015, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Jeep Wrangler now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −16.03% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −12.78%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2021 model has the most listings at a current average price of $27,176. The Jeep Wrangler offers a distinctive open-air, trail-ready character that few SUVs can match.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The 2026 Jeep Wrangler has a powertrain for everyone, offering the stalwart Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, a more efficient 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo, and a powerful 6.4-liter Hemi V8, with an eight-speed automatic transmission on most models and a six-speed manual available with the V6.
- Tech: A 12.3-inch touchscreen is standard, backed by wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and the Trails Offroad app trial adds trail maps through the infotainment screen.
- Safety: Adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking become standard on the Sport S trim, while blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist become standard at the Rubicon X trim level.
- Starting price: The base two-door Sport model was priced at $34,227 without options.

As a previous owner of a CJ7, and later a 1999 Wrangler, the 2025 Wrangler is very different. The clutch is feather light compared to any standard transmission I’ve ever driven. I love the ability to integrate my phone etc.. the Alpine stereo sounds good. The removable T top model sounds tight going down the road… Very little noise. The steering is easy yet responsive. The seats are comfortable and fit well even though I’m only 5’2” and my husband 6’1”. I wish the clutch were a bit more firm. But I’m sure I will get used to it and even prefer it overtime.

I like the features, I think the car is a great value. The only thing I wish it had was auto start but other than that I love it!

Jeep Wrangler test drive
overall
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler is a capable off-roader that does a fair job as a daily driver.
There are no significant updates for the 2026 Jeep Wrangler, but it does add an enhanced hinge system that makes the doors easier to remove plus some limited-edition exterior colors. As one of the original rough-and-tumble off-roaders, the Wrangler maintains an aura of adventure with a minimalist, rugged interior with analog gauges. The Wrangler shines in an off-road environment but has just enough tech and comfort to double as a commuter car.
Verdict: The 2026 Jeep Wrangler is full of compromises. It has unquestionable prowess in the dirt and projects fun-loving confidence, but in a city or suburban environment, drivers will have to deal with a noisy cabin and poor fuel economy.
