Most Tucson model years are down year over year, which can work in your favor if you're shopping used and want to avoid paying peak prices. The declines are especially noticeable on several recent and mid-cycle years, while a few years are changing only slightly. That makes the Tucson a model with generally softening prices rather than a lineup that's broadly holding firm.
The 2023 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2023, 2018, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Hyundai Tucson safe?
- 2024: 10/10
- 2022: 9/10
- 2021: 8/10
- 2016: 10/10
The 2024 Tucson includes standard driver assistance features including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, driver attention monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
For the safest used buy, the 2016 and 2024 models both post the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Hyundai Tucson now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −8.2% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −4.88%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 34.9% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 34.5%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $23,484. The Hyundai Tucson offers a spacious cabin, helpful technology, and a comfortable ride that make it easy to live with every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The 2024 Hyundai Tucson comes equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It develops 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque.
- Tech: The standard infotainment system includes an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The SEL Convenience Package, XRT, and Limited trims all come with a fully digital instrument panel, as well as a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen.
- Safety: Stepping up to the range-topping Limited trim adds front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree parking camera system, and Hyundai’s Smart Park remote-parking feature.
- Starting price: Base MSRP for the 2024 Hyundai Tucson is $27,250 for the SE trim.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2027 inventory to mature.

I love the features, so much that I searched for this car until I found the best deal! Hyundai has stepped up their game in the automotive industry, luxury with an affordable price! This Tucson is in its own category, I have nothing impressive to compare it to at this price!

The car has great features, I wish it had more compartments. It needs somewhere to put your sunglasses. I also drove the Santa fe. It was really nice but also so much more now with the upgraded body.

Hyundai completely redesigned the Tucson for 2022, giving it a futuristic look, better tech, and more safety equipment. The models since have refined that formula, and the automaker offers three variants of the popular SUV, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.
What’s New for the 2024 Hyundai Tucson
The 2023 Tucson didn’t see many updates, but for 2024, the SUV gets new safety tech, a new color, and updated interior features that include a new touchscreen, ambient lighting, and more.
Design
The 2022 redesign brought sharp styling with chiseled sides and a unique grille with “winged” LED running lights. That design hasn’t changed for 2024, but the Tucson’s look remains modern and competitive with its segment. The SUV gets 17-inch wheels as standard equipment, and top trims add 19-inch designs.
Powertrain
The base engine for the 2024 Tucson is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. Stepping up to the hybrid options brings a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. It combines with electric motors in the hybrid to deliver 226 horsepower and 258 pounds of torque, or 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque in the PHEV. The Tucson gets a six- or eight-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive (FWD or AWD), depending on the trim.
Interior
Cloth upholstery comes standard, and synthetic leather is offered in mid-range trims. The top trims add leather upholstery and ventilated front seats. There’s seating for five passengers, and the rear seat folds down to open more cargo space. Heated rear seats are available in the top trims, and gas-only models offer an under-floor storage space. Memory seating is also available, but only for top trims.
Technology
Hyundai equips an 8-inch touchscreen as standard, along with six speakers, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD radio, and USB ports. An optional eight-inch unit adds SiriusXM radio and Bluelink app features, and a 10.25-inch display is available. It offers navigation and an upgraded stereo, but requires a wired connection to smartphones.
Safety
Hyundai offers a generous suite of advanced driver aids, including forward-collision alerts, blind -spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, driver-attention monitoring, and more. Top trims are available with a blind-view camera system that projects a view of the vehicle’s side into the gauge cluster. The 2023 Tucson earned a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but it hasn’t been subjected to the new side-crash standards.
Pricing
Pricing for the 2024 Hyundai Tucson starts at $27,250 for the base SE trim. The mid-range SEL starts at $29,400, and the top Limited model starts at $36,510. The Tucson Hybrid starts at $31,350, and the Tucson PHEV at $37,500.
