The 2025 Ioniq 5 N arrives as Hyundai’s first true, high-performance electric vehicle.

What’s New for the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

By adding the letter “N,” Hyundai promises to build upon the impressive Ioniq 5 by adding a true performance specification. Designed to be Hyundai’s halo car, the 2025 Ioniq 5 N will combine racetrack capability with everyday driveability–and a good deal of corner carving fun, too.

Design

The regular Ioniq 5 is one of the most distinctive and recognizable vehicles on sale today. With the N, Hyundai keeps that same distinctive look but adds plenty of N brand design cues. From the rear quarter, red (or luminous orange, as Hyundai calls it) trim outlines a rear diffuser, side skirts, and traces below the taillights. You’ll also notice an extended rear spoiler and a triangle-shaped center brake light.

Move to the front-quarter view, and that luminous orange paint covers the front spoiler lip and a center marker just below the grille. Big air flaps and curtains adorn the Ioniq 5 N to help with cooling, and an “N” badge sits tucked away on the passenger side of the grille.

Powertrain

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N employs an 84-kWh battery pack capable of recharging at a 350-kW rate. That battery pairs with two electric motors–one at the front and one at the rear–that combine for an estimated 641 horsepower. Beyond straight-line speed (which is expected to be blistering), the Ioniq 5 N was engineered to handle race-track driving and corner carving. An enhanced oil cooler, battery chiller, and air intakes provide the Ioniq 5 N with better heat management, and drivers can select specific battery preconditioning settings depending on whether they’re drag racing or track driving their car.

Hyundai upgraded the suspension, tightened the steering ratio, and swapped in N-tuned brakes with larger discs and four-piston calipers. The regenerative braking system has also been aggressively tuned for track-driving performance.

An e-shift transmission simulates an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the N Grin Boost button unlocks an extra 50 horsepower for a limited time. With a 0-60 time below 3.5 seconds, the Ioniq 5 N will be incredibly fast.

Interior

Most electric cars' interiors are highlighted by silence. With no engine running under the hood, an EV’s cabin can feel peaceful and serene. While that may still be possible in an Ioniq 5 N, selecting the proper setting on the N active sound system will introduce simulated engine noise as a functional feedback element. Pumped through ten speakers (eight inside, two outside), the system can be programmed for three different sound themes and can include pops and bangs for downshifts. Select “Supersonic,” and the Ioniq 5 will warp toward the future, with sounds inspired by fighter jets.

From a tactile perspective, the 2025 Ioniq 5 N boasts a redesigned steering wheel with paddle shifters and the N Boost button. Racing seats will hold you in place, and the center console includes knee pads on either side to protect your bony points during hard corners. However, that center console now sits static below the dashboard; the open and airy front floor of the standard Ioniq 5 isn’t available on the Ioniq 5 N. Sustainable materials are present throughout the Ioniq 5 N's cabin, with tactile elements coming from recyled sugarcane, plastic bottles--even the tire pigment paint and Alcantara seat material comes from recycled products.

Technology, Safety, and Pricing

Hyundai hasn’t revealed much about the Ioniq 5’s tech and safety offerings, but we’d expect a similar setup to what is available in the standard Ioniq 5’s higher trim levels. Although that doesn’t include wireless Apple CarPlay or wireless Android Auto, it does include an otherwise full-featured suite of infotainment software, with niceties ranging from Bluetooth connectivity and satellite radio to EV-specific charging and navigation features.

The regular-grade Ioniq 5 comes equipped with a wealth of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and a driver drowsiness monitor. Beyond those standard features, it also can be equipped with a surround-view monitor, parking assist, and a head-up display. Given that the Ioniq 5 N will almost certainly cost more than the most expensive iterations of the current Ioniq 5, we’d like to see all of those features included as standard equipment.

As of the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, Hyundai has still not released details related to the Ioniq 5 N’s on-sale date or expected price.
