| 2014 | $16,118 | $14,319 – $16,100 |
The Ford Mustang's current nationwide average price is $28,823, and its year-round low is $25,616.54. That puts the model's current pricing in a fairly broad band, with newer examples commanding the highest averages and older ones opening up lower entry points. Recently, prices have come down for the 2024 and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the Ford Mustang is a strong pick if you want a used sports car with broad appeal and a long-running enthusiast following. The all-generations owner rating is 4.62/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, fun driving experience, and iconic styling. Across the years, the Mustang also earns recurring praise for strong acceleration, engaging handling, and the sound and character of its V8 engines.
Expert reviews rate the 2018 and 2021 models among the highest across all years.
The main tradeoffs that show up in recent expert coverage are a cramped back seat, limited cargo space, and a noisy cabin. Those are the kinds of compromises you accept when you prioritize performance and character over everyday practicality.
27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Ford Mustang models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently praise the Mustang for its performance, styling, and driving enjoyment. Across the model years in the data, that enthusiasm shows up in strong owner ratings and repeated praise for acceleration, handling, and overall fun behind the wheel.
- Owners rate the Ford Mustang between 4.42 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk depends heavily on model year and maintenance history, so a careful inspection and vehicle-history review matter most on older examples.
What should I look for when buying a used Ford Mustang?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 75.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 93.7% |
| 2025 | 92.2% |
| 2024 | 90.8% |
| 2023 | 87.8% |
| 2022 | 78.9% |
| 2021 | 74.1% |
| 2020 | 68.6% |
| 2019 | 64.7% |
| 2018 | 60.8% |
| 2017 | 56.1% |
| 2016 | 55.4% |
| 2015 | 56.6% |
| 2014 | 59.2% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams
- Infotainment: a large 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with the Sync 4 infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimates the four-cylinder EcoBoost will return 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 26 mpg in combined driving. The V8-powered GT is rated at 15/24 mpg city/highway and 18 mpg combined with the automatic transmission. The manual transmission drops fuel economy figures by 1 mpg across the board.
Which Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2024 Ford Mustang offers these trims:
- EcoBoost: the best-value trim, with the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, a 10-speed automatic, and the updated cabin with the 13.2-inch touchscreen and digital instrument cluster
- GT: adds the 5.0-liter V8, a six-speed manual, and the more complete muscle-car character for shoppers who want stronger performance
- Dark Horse: adds 500 hp and several other performance enhancements for buyers who want the most serious performance focus
What Ford Mustang do most buyers choose?
The Ford Mustang years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 3,506 | 32.5% |
| 2025 | 3,495 | 32.7% |
| 2023 | 3,048 | 32.9% |
| 2020 | 2,286 | 30.3% |
| 2021 | 2,148 | 30.2% |
| 2019 | 2,085 | 30.4% |
Those higher-volume years tend to be popular because they combine newer features, broad availability, and strong shopper interest. When more listings are on the market, you also get more chances to compare condition, equipment, and price.
What is the Ford Mustang's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $42,755 | −10.08% |
| 2024 | $37,760 | −5.45% |
| 2020 | $26,525 | −5.21% |
| 2016 | $19,603 | −3.81% |
| 2019 | $26,942 | −3.74% |
| 2017 | $21,745 | −2.28% |
| 2018 | $22,633 | −2.22% |
| 2015 | $20,227 | −1.16% |
| 2021 | $31,519 | −0.48% |
| 2022 | $34,405 | +1.88% |
| 2014 | $16,118 | +6.64% |
| 2023 | $32,802 | +7.31% |
Most model years in the table are moving lower year over year, which is good news if you want to buy used. A few years are rising instead, so the market is still rewarding certain newer examples and some older enthusiast-favorite years. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newest models, which can create better entry points for shoppers watching prices closely.
The 2021 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2023, 2014, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.

Customers say
Overall, the Ford Mustang consistently impresses drivers with its powerful performance, fun driving experience, and iconic styling throughout the years. Owners frequently praise the exhilarating acceleration, handling, and variety of engine options. The thrilling sound of the V8 engines adds to the driving enjoyment. However, some drivers express concerns about limited backseat space and fuel economy, as well as occasional issues with reliability and build quality in older models. Despite these drawbacks, the Mustang is often celebrated as a beloved classic that offers both excitement and nostalgia.

One of the few cars yet available with a manual transmission. Gotta love the V8. Imho, UI for all the tech could be a bit more intuitive and easy to use but, some of this is my need to learn it. Sure wish they still provided a printed owners manual.
