| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|

Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: City Safety, Pilot Assist, and a 360-degree camera system
- Infotainment: Apple CarPlay connectivity with Google Built-In and the new user interface
- Fuel efficiency: The XC90 plug-in hybrid offers up to 33 miles of pure-electric range on a full charge.
Which Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?
The 2025 Volvo XC90 offers these trims:
- Core: The entry trim is the best-value starting point, and it comes with the B5 mild-hybrid powertrain, standard AWD, and the XC90’s updated cabin and tech.
- Plus: This trim adds more upscale equipment, including the Orrefors crystal shift knob, and suits you if you want a stronger luxury feel without moving to the top end.
- Ultra: This trim brings the most premium presentation, including the 14-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound system and available Bowers & Wilkins audio, making it the right choice if you want the most fully equipped XC90.
What Volvo XC90 do most buyers choose?
The Volvo XC90 years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 2,802 | 36.5% |
| 2024 | 2,658 | 37.1% |
| 2023 | 2,255 | 37% |
| 2026 | 1,765 | 37.1% |
| 2022 | 1,547 | 38.3% |
| 2019 | 1,116 | 38.4% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, price, and condition. They also sit close to the newest model years, so you can shop for newer features while still having a broad selection.
What is the Volvo XC90's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $29,095 | −24.27% |
| 2021 | $26,140 | −16.69% |
| 2019 | $19,294 | −14.69% |
| 2020 | $22,520 | −14.52% |
| 2017 | $15,411 | −14.51% |
| 2023 | $38,002 | −14.49% |
| 2016 | $13,730 | −11.81% |
| 2018 | $16,954 | −11.26% |
| 2025 | $51,179 | −8.48% |
| 2024 | $44,912 | −6.88% |
Most XC90 model years are showing clear year-over-year price declines, which is helpful if you want to buy used after the sharpest early drop has already happened. The newer models are falling too, but by smaller percentages than many older years, which keeps them attractive if you want recent features and a broader selection. Overall, the table points to a market where used buyers can find meaningful value across several model years.
The 2024, 2025, and 2018 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

I really wanted this vehicle to work out for us, but it’s just not practical to have people using the back row. Getting in and out is cumbersome just due to how the seats are designed and how they unlock and move. There’s just not enough room for it to be a good experience even for kids, much less a teenager. The back two rows need some re-thinking. For instance, Honda’s seat system in the back two rows is far superior.

CarGurus recommends the 2022 Volvo XC90
Summary
With 1,553 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,137, 37.7% of 2022 Volvo XC90 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Volvo XC90 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
87.7% of 2022 Volvo XC90 listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Volvo XC90 stands out as an elegant three-row SUV with a stylish design, a quiet cabin, and strong safety ratings. It also has a distinctive eco-minded appeal thanks to an available plug-in hybrid variant and available leather-free features, giving it a more modern, sustainability-focused personality than many family SUVs.
That said, the XC90 is not without compromises. Its third row is cramped, and its touchscreen response is sluggish, which can take some shine off an otherwise upscale experience. Even so, for buyers who want a refined three-row SUV with a premium feel, hybrid availability, and a strong safety reputation, the 2022 XC90 has a clear identity.
