What should I look for when buying a used Volvo XC90?

Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2019 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: City Safety, Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection.
• Infotainment: Android-based touchscreen infotainment with Google Built-In and Apple CarPlay connectivity, including wireless and USB-C support.
• Fuel efficiency: The XC90 plug-in hybrid offers up to 33 miles of pure-electric range on a full charge, and the T8 also offers the best fuel economy, at an EPA-rated max of 27 mpg.

Which Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 offers these trims:

• Core: Best for shoppers who want the entry point into the XC90 lineup, with the B5 powertrain and seven-seat layout.
• Plus: Adds the Orrefors crystal shift knob and more upscale interior material choices, making it the best-value trim for many buyers.
• Ultra: Brings the top-end equipment, including the 14-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound system, head-up display, and the option for the 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio system.

What Volvo XC90 do most buyers choose?

The Volvo XC90 years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you the broadest selection of listings and a strong mix of pricing and deal availability. That usually makes it easier to compare trims, features, and condition before you buy.

What is the Volvo XC90's resale value?

The table shows broad downward movement across the XC90 lineup, which can work in your favor if you’re shopping used. The newer model years are still declining, but the drops are smaller than the steep double-digit changes seen in several older years. That pattern suggests you can find meaningful value in the used market while still targeting recent examples with newer features.

The 2024, 2025, and 2018 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
