What should I look for when buying a used Subaru BRZ?

Across all model years, at 72.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: EyeSight driver-assist tech, with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: a standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel-economy ratings for the 2022 Subaru BRZ are 25 mpg combined (21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway) with the automatic transmission and 22 mpg combined (20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway) with the manual transmission.

Which Subaru BRZ trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru BRZ offers these trims:

• Premium: The entry trim brings the core BRZ formula with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a standard 8-inch touchscreen, and the digital gauge cluster. It suits you if you want the most affordable way into the BRZ experience.
• Limited: This trim adds 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, Ultrasuede upholstery with red accent stitching, dual-mode heaters, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, steering responsive headlights, and reverse automatic braking on automatic models. It is the best-value trim if you want the richest mix of comfort, grip, and driver-assist features.

What Subaru BRZ do most buyers choose?

The Subaru BRZ years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

Higher-volume years tend to be the easiest to shop because you get more inventory to compare and a better chance of finding the color, mileage, and condition you want. They also often attract more competitive pricing, which helps explain why they remain popular used picks.

What is the Subaru BRZ's resale value?

Overall, the BRZ shows a mixed but fairly stable pricing pattern. Two of the newer model years have edged down, while two others have moved slightly higher, so the market is not moving in one direction across the board. For used buyers, that means you can still find attractive pricing on some recent BRZs while others continue to command steady values.

The 2022 and 2023 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

The 2022, 2023, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Subaru BRZ safe?

• 2022: 7/10
• 2015: 7/10

The 2022 BRZ includes Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist tech with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams on automatic-transmission models.

For the safest used buy, the 2015 and 2022 models both post the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used Subaru BRZ now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2024 model is at −4.94% versus a year ago, and the 2017 model is at −4.8%.
• Deal availability: The 2024 model has 35.4% good and great deals, and the 2017 model has 29.4%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $28,920. The Subaru BRZ offers a balanced, playful driving character that makes it especially appealing if you want a sports car that feels engaging on everyday roads.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The 2022 BRZ uses a Subaru boxer-four engine with Toyota’s D-4S fuel-injection system, makes 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and can still rev to 7,000 rpm.
• Tech: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster replace the previous 7-inch touchscreen and analog gauges, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard as well.
• Safety: The BRZ gets Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist tech for the first time, albeit only on automatic-transmission models, and the BRZ Limited adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and steering responsive headlights.
• Starting price: The 2022 Subaru BRZ starts at $28,955 for the base Premium trim level with the manual transmission.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
