Why it stands out
The Nissan Maxima has long positioned itself as a unique offering in the midsize sedan market, often branded as a "four-door sports car" due to its sporty handling and powerful V6 engine. Although it may not have achieved the same sales volume as competitors like the Dodge Charger or Toyota Avalon, the Maxima distinguishes itself with a blend of luxury features, advanced technology, and eye-catching design at a competitive price point. Additionally, its strong reputation for reliability and value makes it an appealing choice for buyers seeking an affordable yet stylish sedan option.
Other model years to consider
Considering the Nissan Maxima, the 2018 and 2023 model years stand out for their strong user satisfaction and favorable market positioning. The 2018 model offers an attractive average price of $14,734.60 combined with a high user rating of 4.6/5, making it a great value option for buyers seeking reliability and performance. Meanwhile, the 2023 model excels with a perfect user rating of 5/5 and a good percentage of favorable deals, indicating high user satisfaction and a solid investment for those looking for the latest features and technology.
Model years to approach with caution
The Nissan Maxima model years from 2008 and 2007 present notable challenges, particularly in financial aspects, as a high percentage of listings are classified as not good or great deals. Additionally, the overall quality metrics for these years remain strong; however, the high demand may limit availability, making it difficult for buyers to secure optimal pricing. Older models like those from 1998 and 2005 also exhibit solid user ratings but may face issues related to aging components and decreasing market interest, impacting both quality and financial viability.
These recommendations are based on CarGurus' proprietary market data from December 17, 2025, CarGurus experts' opinions, and generative AI.

The Nissan Maxima has garnered a generally positive reputation across its various model years, earning praise for its powerful performance, stylish design, and comfortable interiors. Owners often highlight the impressive acceleration and handling, making it enjoyable to drive. Features like advanced technology, spaciousness, and luxurious elements are also frequently appreciated. However, some drivers express concerns about fuel economy, reliability issues such as transmission problems, and the car feeling slightly overpriced at times. Overall, the Maxima stands out as a sporty and dependable choice for those seeking both performance and comfort in a sedan.

What people say
Great car! Awesome features. The only thing I plan to add is a remote starter and a rear spoiler. Runs like a dream!
Considering that i have the lowest trim, this car has some very cool features that you don’t normally find in base models! I love the interior comfort and the smooth ride it provides. The exterior is such a beautiful design, I get compliments on the rarity of the car. When you see it, you have to do a double take!
Love ❤️ maxima Great fun sporty long lasting stylish car
Great car for my son. Loaded with lots of extras. Drives great and looks great.
The Maxima is one of my favorite cars, it has lots of power and its very stylish. This particular one is has heated seats and steering wheel, I like that it has dual Sun roof. My only issue is that front sunroof doesnt have a cover up so to not let in any sun when too hot.
