What should I look for when buying a used Mercedes-Benz GLA?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The turbo-four engine gets an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined. The 4MATIC version does one mpg worse in each category; lower fuel economy is typical for an all-wheel-drive vehicle.
• Infotainment: The GLA comes standard with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system, which includes two 7.0-inch display screens in one housing.

Which Mercedes-Benz GLA trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA offers these trims:

• GLA 250: This is the entry point and the best-value choice for most shoppers, with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and MBUX infotainment. It suits you if you want the core GLA experience with premium tech and compact dimensions.
• GLA 250 4MATIC: This adds all-wheel drive and the same 221-hp turbo-four, making it the better pick if you want extra traction and the broader drive-mode tuning described in the expert review.
• AMG GLA 35: This trim adds the AMG-enhanced turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, 302 hp, AMG-specific sport suspension, high-performance brakes, AMG-specific exhaust, and multiple AMG drive modes. It suits you if you want the most performance-focused version in the lineup.
• AMG GLA 45: This is the top performance model, with 382 hp, upgraded brakes, a reinforced body shell, sophisticated engine cooling, and additional dynamics modes. It is the choice for buyers who want the most power and track-oriented hardware.

What Mercedes-Benz GLA do most buyers choose?

The Mercedes-Benz GLA years with the most listings are 2025, 2026, and 2022.

Higher-volume years usually give you more choices, which can make it easier to compare trims, mileage, and condition. They also tend to be the years shoppers cross-shop most often, so you may find a broader spread of prices and equipment.

What is the Mercedes-Benz GLA's resale value?

Most model years show double-digit price drops, which is good news if you are shopping used and want stronger value. The pattern also suggests that newer examples have been moving down meaningfully, so recent model years can be especially attractive if you want modern features without paying new-car pricing. The 2023, 2026, and 2018 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Mercedes-Benz GLA safe?

• 2021: 7/10

For the safest used buy, the 2021 model posts the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz GLA now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2026 model is at −9.81% versus a year ago, and the 2025 model is at −15.92%.
• Deal availability: The 2026 model has 39.4% good and great deals, and the 2025 model has 38.8%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $34,504. The Mercedes-Benz GLA offers a premium-feeling cabin and a strong mix of style and technology.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Mercedes sells the GLA in three variants, with another coming soon. There’s the traditional GLA 250 and GLA 250 4MATIC, and the AMG GLA 35.
• Tech: The GLA comes standard with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system, which includes two 7.0-inch display screens in one housing.
• Safety: Mercedes gives every GLA a reasonable amount of active safety features. The list includes a (federally-mandated) rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, vehicle-exit warning, automatic emergency braking, driver-drowsiness monitoring, and crosswind assist.
• Starting price: The SUV starts at $36,230.

If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
