Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high beams
• Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation, 360-degree camera views, and smartphone connectivity features
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is rated at 19 mpg city and an impressive 30 mpg highway for RWD models. The AWD version knocks this down to 18/27, while the hybrid injects significant gains at 25/33 (RWD) and 23/31 (AWD).

Which Lexus LS trim should I buy?

The 2018 Lexus LS offers these trims:

• LS 500: the core choice, with the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, rear- or all-wheel drive, and a strong mix of luxury and performance
• LS 500h: the hybrid option, adding two electric motors, a lithium-ion battery, and 354 combined horsepower for buyers who want the efficiency-focused powertrain
• LS 500 F Sport: the best-value pick for drivers who want the sharpest handling, with rear-axle steering, active stabilizer bars, staggered summer tires, variable-ratio steering, and adaptive air suspension

What Lexus LS do most buyers choose?

The Lexus LS years with the most listings are 2014, 2017, and 2019.

Higher-volume years tend to be the easiest to shop because you have more listings to compare and more chances to find the right color, mileage, and condition. They also often attract more deal-priced examples, which can make them especially appealing for used buyers.

What is the Lexus LS's resale value?

Most of the model years in this set are moving lower year over year, which can create better opportunities for used buyers. One year is essentially flat, while another is rising, so the pricing picture is mixed rather than uniform.

The 2019 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

The 2014, 2019, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Lexus LS safe?

• 2018: 9/10

For the safest used buy, the 2018 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used Lexus LS now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2019 model is at −0.01% versus a year ago, and the 2018 model is at −5.25%.
• Deal availability: The 2019 model has 34.3% good and great deals, and the 2018 model has 34.7%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2014 model has the most listings at a current average price of $20,203. The Lexus LS offers a quiet cabin, premium interior materials, and a smooth, composed ride that make it especially appealing as a used luxury sedan.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The LS 500 comes with one powertrain. Instead of the previous model’s V8, the new LS employs a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 416 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, and with either rear- or all-wheel drive. The LS 500h is a gas-electric hybrid with two electric motors, a lithium-ion battery, and 354 combined horsepower.
• Tech: Lexus has some original tricks no one else has copied yet. First is the Lexus Concierge, which syncs the seat and steering-wheel temperature to your desired temperature so you won’t have to fiddle with them separately. And while parking, the 360-degree cameras can automatically pan around the vehicle to make detecting obstacles much easier.
• Safety: Lexus Safety System+ comes standard with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also standard.
• Starting price: The $75,000 base price offers a lot of amenities.

If you're buying used today, the 2014 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
