Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Highway Driving Assist is standard on all 2025 Sorento models except for the LX, and with SX and SX Prestige trim, it adds lane-changing functionality to create a Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) system.
• Infotainment: every 2025 Sorento has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: Kia equips the Sorento LX and S with an underwhelming 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is adequate and will return up to 26 mpg in combined driving. The turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that’s standard in all other Sorentos generates 281 horsepower (+90) and 311 pound-feet of torque (+130), and the official EPA gas mileage rating is 23 mpg in combined driving.

Which Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2025 Kia Sorento offers these trims:

• LX: The entry trim uses the 191-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and eight-speed automatic transmission, making it the budget-friendly choice.
• S: This trim keeps the same engine setup and is the right choice if you want the lower-priced gas model with the Sorento’s core family-SUV appeal.
• EX: This trim adds the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and can be paired with the X-Line appearance package.
• SX: This trim also upgrades to the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and can be paired with the X-Line appearance package.
• SX Prestige: This trim comes standard with the X-Line appearance package and adds a more upscale presentation.
• X-Pro SX Prestige: This top trim adds exclusive front and rear bumper covers, enhanced utility roof rails, unique matte-black 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and improved towing capacity to 4,500 pounds.

What Kia Sorento do most buyers choose?

The Kia Sorento years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2022.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they offer a strong mix of availability, pricing, and deal share. That gives you more choices to compare while still staying in the newer end of the used Sorento range.

What is the Kia Sorento's resale value?

Most Sorento model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used. The newer models are also showing smaller declines than several older years, so recent Sorentos are still holding a bit more of their value. That creates a useful spread for buyers who want to balance price with newer features.

The 2023, 2025, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Kia Sorento safe?

• 2025: 8/10
• 2024: 9/10
• 2022: 9/10
• 2021: 7/10

• 2017: 10/10
• 2016: 9/10
• 2015: 7/10
• 2014: 9/10

Highway Driving Assist is standard on all 2025 Sorento models except for the LX, and with SX and SX Prestige trim, it adds lane-changing functionality to create a Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) system.

For the safest used buy, the 2017 and 2019 models both post the highest confirmed score of 10/10.

Should I buy a used Kia Sorento now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −6.73% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −7.56%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 37% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 38.1%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $28,728. The Kia Sorento offers a spacious, family-friendly cabin with a strong mix of style, practicality, and features.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Kia equips the Sorento LX and S with an underwhelming 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder generates 281 horsepower (+90) and 311 pound-feet of torque (+130).
• Tech: every 2025 Sorento has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Digital Key technology is part of the new infotainment system.
• Safety: Highway Driving Assist is standard on all 2025 Sorento models except for the LX, and with SX and SX Prestige trim, it adds lane-changing functionality to create a Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) system.
• Starting price: the base Sorento LX starts at less than $35,000.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
