Is the Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — the Jeep Wrangler earns strong owner approval across its long run, and the all-generations owner rating is 4.55/5 across every model year in the data.

The main trade-offs that show up in recent expert coverage are poor fuel economy, noise, and a cramped back seat, along with a ride that can feel rough on pavement.
31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Jeep Wrangler models reliable?
Owners across the model years consistently praise the Wrangler’s rugged design, off-road strength, and fun driving character. Expert coverage also reinforces its appeal as a capable, distinctive SUV with a long-running identity that keeps buyers coming back.
- Owners rate the Jeep Wrangler between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by checking condition carefully, since the Wrangler’s appeal often depends on how well it has been maintained and used.
What should I look for when buying a used Jeep Wrangler?

| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2027 | 97.2% |
| 2026 | 95.2% |
| 2025 | 94.6% |

| 2014 | 62.6% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2019 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Sport S, Sahara, Rubicon, and Rubicon X models add adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, while blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist become standard at the Rubicon X trim level.
- Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard.
- Fuel efficiency: a Wrangler with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine is the most fuel-efficient, with an EPA combined rating of 21 mpg in both the two- and four-door body styles.
Which Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler offers...
- Sport: The entry trim keeps the Wrangler’s rugged character and is the starting point if you want the most affordable path into the lineup.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim because it adds adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, making it the smart step up for shoppers who want more everyday convenience.
- Willys: This trim builds on the Wrangler’s off-road personality and is a good fit if you want a more trail-focused look and feel.
- Rubicon: This is the trim to choose if you want the Wrangler’s serious off-road hardware and capability to take center stage.
- Rubicon X: This top trim adds the most complete safety package, including blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist.
What Jeep Wrangler do most buyers choose?
The Jeep Wrangler years with the most listings are 2021, 2022, and 2019.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 8,910 | 33.5% |
| 2022 | 8,579 | 33.9% |
| 2019 | 8,021 | 32.7% |
| 2020 | 7,906 | 32.9% |
| 2018 | 7,704 | 31.9% |
| 2023 | 7,617 | 34.5% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a broad mix of availability, pricing, and trim choices. That usually makes it easier to find the configuration you want without stretching too far on budget.
What is the Jeep Wrangler's resale value?

That pattern suggests you may find stronger value in recent inventory than you would expect from a vehicle with this kind of following.
The 2023, 2014, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Jeep Wrangler safe?
- 2023: 6/10
- 2021: 7/10
- 2020: 8/10
For the safest used buy, the 2020 model posts the highest confirmed score of 8/10.
Should I buy a used Jeep Wrangler now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −15.47% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −11.43%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2021 model has the most listings at a current average price of $28,904. The Jeep Wrangler offers a distinctive open-air character and a rugged identity that make it especially appealing if you want something with real personality.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The latest Wrangler offers a Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo, and a 6.4-liter Hemi V8, plus an eight-speed automatic transmission and a six-speed manual with the V6.
- Tech: A 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability are standard.
- Safety: Sport S, Sahara, Rubicon, and Rubicon X models add adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, while blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist become standard at the Rubicon X trim level.

Overall, Jeep Wrangler owners across all model years express strong enthusiasm for their vehicles, particularly praising their off-road capabilities, rugged design, and fun driving experiences. Many appreciate the iconic styling and the ability to customize their Wranglers. However, common criticisms include poor fuel economy, limited cargo space, and occasional discomfort during longer drives. While the Wranglers are loved for their adventurous spirit, some owners wish for more modern features and improved reliability in certain models.

As a previous owner of a CJ7, and later a 1999 Wrangler, the 2025 Wrangler is very different. The clutch is feather light compared to any standard transmission I’ve ever driven. I love the ability to integrate my phone etc.. the Alpine stereo sounds good. The removable T top model sounds tight going down the road… Very little noise. The steering is easy yet responsive. The seats are comfortable and fit well even though I’m only 5’2” and my husband 6’1”. I wish the clutch were a bit more firm. But I’m sure I will get used to it and even prefer it overtime.

This jeep is absolutely beautiful I don’t think I would’ve found something as spot on to what vehicle I was looking for in another location. The soft top to the jeep makes it way easier to ride with the top opened up compared to the hard top jeeps which I love. The value of it was absolutely worth it too compared to other jeeps I’ve seen with the same amount of mileage you can’t really find something to beat its value. Overall I will definitely be referring friends and family to search for their cars here when they’re in the market for one.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler stands out as one of the last body-on-frame SUVs for buyers who care more about off-road ability than creature comforts. Its appeal is rooted in a long-running Jeep formula, and it remains a popular choice for adventure-minded drivers. Every Wrangler comes with solid front and rear axles and a five-link suspension system, which helps explain why it continues to be such a capable trail vehicle.
That capability comes with tradeoffs. The Wrangler’s strengths are its outstanding off-road performance and multiple powertrain options, but it is not as convincing when the pavement starts to matter. The source notes limited storage space and unimpressive on-road performance, and owner feedback echoes concerns about high-speed handling and pricing. For shoppers who want a rugged SUV with serious off-road credentials, those compromises may be acceptable, but they are part of the Wrangler experience.
