The 2024 Elantra includes Hyundai SmartSense with forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beams.
For the safest used buy, the 2017 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Hyundai Elantra now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −1.12% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −4.24%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 32.5% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 32.4%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $20,223. The Hyundai Elantra offers a roomy cabin and a broad mix of trims, so you can shop for the balance of comfort, tech, and value that fits your needs.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: As an affordable, mass-market car, you would reasonably expect the Elantra to offer one powertrain. Instead, there are four engines and five transmissions, each of which share a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout and four cylinders.
- Tech: A 10.25-inch touchscreen is now standard on SEL-and-above trims. A Wi-Fi hotspot is a new option for 2024, along with a digital key function that can be used with iPhones or Android phones.
- Safety: The SE and N come standard with forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beams.
- Starting price: The 2024 Elantra starts at $21,625.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2027 inventory to mature.

Absolutely the best car I have ever owned! I bought it in 2015 as a certified pre-owned vehicle and never once did I have any mechanical issues other than just this year the pump for the windshield wiper fluid finally went out. However, my boyfriend and I were able to repair that on our own. I planned on keeping this car a good long time as I take care of my vehicles. Unfortunately I was rear-ended in October and the vehicle was totaled. Im putting my faith once again into Hyundai and buying a certified pre-owned 2020 Kona that I have researched heavily. I loved my Elantra and found it to be an excellent vehicle. I very much hope to have the same exact experience with my Kona as when I test drove a 2018 which had the same engine as the 2020 I found it extremely responsive, fantastic breaking, smooth ride even on bumpy bad roads, major safety features, very powerful, and felt just like my Elantra to drive.
