How much does the Honda Insight cost in today's market?
Used Honda Insight prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $21,027 | $19,845 – $21,337 |
| 2020 | $19,578 | $17,340 – $20,076 |
| 2019 | $16,899 | $16,112 – $17,618 |
The Honda Insight's current nationwide average price is $17,264, and its lowest nationwide average price over the past year was $15,935. Recently, prices have come down for the 2019 and 2022 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Honda Insight a good car?
Yes — the Honda Insight is a strong pick if you want efficiency, comfort, and a polished everyday driving experience. The all-generations owner rating is 4.71/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise its fuel economy, comfortable cabin, and smooth ride, and they also value the car's safety features and easy-to-use technology. The 2019 model's expert review also highlights its practical interior space and attractive styling, which fit the broader appeal of the model well.
Expert reviews rate the 2019 model among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs called out in expert reviews are road and wind noise, CVT groaning during harder acceleration, and a driving character that prioritizes efficiency over excitement. 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Honda Insight models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the Honda Insight as efficient, comfortable, and easy to live with, and the expert review reinforces that impression with praise for its ride quality, handling, and overall refinement. The model also earns strong marks for safety and everyday usability.
- Owners rate the Honda Insight between 4.6 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is choosing a higher-mileage example with a rougher service history, so a careful inspection and vehicle-history check are smart steps.
What should I look for when buying a used Honda Insight?
Across all model years, at 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2022 | 77% |
| 2021 | 76.5% |
| 2020 | 66.1% |
| 2019 | 66.3% |
| 2014 | 46.7% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Honda Sensing suite with a reversing camera, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist; LaneWatch on EX and Touring trims.
- Infotainment: 8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Which Honda Insight trim should I buy?
The 2019 Honda Insight offers these trims:
- LX: The entry trim gives you the core hybrid setup and the standard safety suite, making it the value-focused choice if you want the Insight's efficiency and everyday usability at the lowest price.
- EX: This trim adds LaneWatch, which shows the car's right-side blind spot, and it suits you if you want a stronger mix of value and added convenience.
- Touring: The top trim adds leather power-adjustable seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a power sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, fog lights, a 10-speaker premium sound system, navigation with real-time traffic, Honda Link subscription services with a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a more upscale feel overall.
What Honda Insight do most buyers choose?
The Honda Insight years with the most listings are 2020, 2021, and 2019.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 224 | 31.3% |
| 2021 | 200 | 31% |
| 2019 | 187 | 32.6% |
| 2022 | 126 | 30.2% |
| 2014 | 15 | 13.3% |
Higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more choices on price, mileage, and condition. They also make it easier to compare listings and find a version that fits your budget.
What is the Honda Insight's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $21,027 | −0.31% |
| 2019 | $16,899 | −0.01% |
| 2020 | $19,578 | +3.44% |
The price movement is mixed, with two model years essentially flat and one showing a modest increase. That pattern suggests the Insight has been fairly stable overall, which can be reassuring if you're shopping used and want a model that isn't swinging sharply in value. The small changes also make it easier to compare listings without worrying about dramatic short-term shifts.
The 2019 and 2022 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2020, 2019, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Honda Insight safe?
- 2019: 9/10
The 2019 Insight includes Honda Sensing with a reversing camera, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. For the safest used buy, the 2019 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Honda Insight now?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2019 model is at −0.01% versus a year ago.
- Deal availability: The 2019 model has 32.6% good and great deals.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2020 model has the most listings at a current average price of $19,578. The Honda Insight offers a comfortable cabin and a smooth, efficient daily-driving character.

Customers say
The Honda Insight is well-loved for its exceptional fuel economy, comfortable interiors, and impressive safety features. Owners frequently praise the car's smooth ride and technology integration, particularly with features like lane keeping assist and a clear rear view camera. Many appreciate the build quality and stylish design across various model years. However, some drivers have noted disadvantages such as road noise, engine noise during hard acceleration, and limited cargo space in certain models. Overall, the Insight is seen as a reliable and efficient choice for everyday driving, though some have slightly criticized its performance when prioritized over fuel efficiency.

Incredibly reliable, did just fine in the snow with proper tires, highway autopilot was a great feature.

I bought this car in 2010 after reasearching all other alternatives. Even now, given the fuel economy, price, exterior and interior looks of the vehicle it still blows everything else out of the water. There are small downsides like hard seats and less sound deadening materials; but, it's not a luxury car. It does what it's built for. Build quality is excellent and so is the integrity of all the parts it's made of. I have had no costs associated with the replacement of parts that are not related to maintenance. Maintenance intervals are huge and cost much less than typical cars. The look and feel of the car has put it over the top for me. Compared to the only other hybrid that gets this kind of fuel economy (Prius and Prius C) this car provides the perfect amount of space for my family (Prius C does not) and the interior beats the Prius any day. The layout of the car is more conventional and you are connected to the drive components for that real car feel.

Love the Insight. Watching mileage increase helps me adjust my foot on the gas. :)> Acceleration, braking and handling are very responsive. Time will tell if the mileage is as good as advertised. So far, it's great.

There is a lot of road noise on the freeway. It has an excellent turning radius. The gas mileage is amazing! The batteries that were originally put in go dead, but Honda replaces them under warranty. The interior is skimpy to save on the weight, but not having all the extra stuff is nice. The outside takes some getting used to with the wheel skirts, but I have come to like it. Overall it is a joy to drive and I look forward to getting every time.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Honda Insight stands out by moving away from the quirky hybrid formulas that defined earlier versions and adopting a more traditional 4-door sedan design. In this redesigned form, it offers plenty of interior and trunk space, which makes it easier to view as a practical everyday car rather than a niche hybrid experiment. It is also described as more attractive than the Civic on which it is based, giving it a stronger visual appeal than many compact hybrids.
That combination of practicality, efficiency-minded packaging, and cleaner styling is what makes the 2019 Insight appealing to buyers who want a compact hybrid without sacrificing the feel of a conventional sedan. At the same time, the source frames the car as a question mark rather than a guaranteed success, which suggests Honda was still trying to prove it had finally found the right hybrid recipe.
