How much does the Honda Insight cost in today's market?

| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $20,583 | $19,845 – $21,383 |
| 2021 | $19,675 | $18,137 – $20,153 |
| 2020 | $19,262 | $17,340 – $20,200 |
| 2019 | $17,542 | $16,112 – $17,618 |
The Honda Insight's current nationwide average price is $17,489, and over the past year that nationwide average reached a low of $15,935. Recently, prices have come down for the 2021 and 2022 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Honda Insight a good car?

Expert reviews rate the 2019 model among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs called out in expert reviews are road and wind noise, CVT groaning during harder acceleration, and the way some higher-trim features are bundled into pricier versions.
29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Honda Insight models reliable?
Owners consistently praise the Honda Insight for its efficiency, comfortable cabin, and reassuring safety equipment. Expert commentary also points to a refined ride and well-executed hybrid driving character.
- Owners rate the Honda Insight between 4.6 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the long-term ownership picture looks encouraging, especially if you prioritize a dependable commuter with strong everyday comfort and efficiency.
What should I look for when buying a used Honda Insight?
Across all model years, at 68.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2022 | 75% |
| 2021 | 74.5% |
| 2020 | 66.3% |
| 2019 | 66.7% |
| 2014 | 60% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Honda Sensing with a reversing camera, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist; LaneWatch on EX and Touring trims
- Infotainment: 8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: According to the EPA, the LX and EX trims are more efficient, likely due to their lighter weight and smaller 16-inch wheels and tires. They’re supposed to return 52 mpg in combined driving.
Which Honda Insight trim should I buy?
The 2019 Honda Insight offers these trims:
- LX: The entry trim gives you the core Insight experience at the lowest price point, making it the best-value choice for shoppers who want the hybrid's efficiency and everyday practicality without moving up the lineup.
- EX: This trim adds LaneWatch, which uses a camera to show what’s in the car’s right-side blind spot, making it a smart step up if you want more driver-assistance coverage.
- Touring: The top trim adds stylish 17-inch aluminum wheels, leather power-adjustable seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a power sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, fog lights, a 10-speaker premium sound system, navigation with real-time traffic, and Honda Link subscription services with a Wi-Fi hotspot.
What Honda Insight do most buyers choose?
The Honda Insight years with the most listings are 2020, 2021, and 2019.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 240 | 31.3% |
| 2021 | 212 | 30.7% |
| 2019 | 195 | 33.3% |
| 2022 | 132 | 25.8% |
| 2014 | 20 | 30% |
Higher-volume years usually draw more shoppers because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right price, trim, and condition. They also tend to be the years most buyers cross-shop first when looking for a used Insight.
What is the Honda Insight's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $20,583 | −2.08% |
| 2021 | $19,675 | −0.16% |
| 2019 | $17,542 | +2.2% |
| 2020 | $19,262 | +3.08% |
The table shows a mixed pattern, with two newer years moving lower and two others moving higher. For used buyers, that creates some useful opportunities because recent model years have softened while others have stayed relatively firm.
The 2021 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2020, 2019, and 2021 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Honda Insight safe?
- 2019: 9/10 The 2019 Insight includes Honda Sensing driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a reversing camera, with LaneWatch on EX and Touring trims.
For the safest used buy, the 2019 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Honda Insight now?

- Price trend: The 2021 model is at −0.16% versus a year ago.
- Deal availability: The 2021 model has 30.7% good and great deals.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2020 model has the most listings at a current average price of $19,262. Incredibly reliable, did just fine in the snow with proper tires, highway autopilot was a great feature.

I bought this car in 2010 after reasearching all other alternatives. Even now, given the fuel economy, price, exterior and interior looks of the vehicle it still blows everything else out of the water. There are small downsides like hard seats and less sound deadening materials; but, it's not a luxury car. It does what it's built for. Build quality is excellent and so is the integrity of all the parts it's made of. I have had no costs associated with the replacement of parts that are not related to maintenance. Maintenance intervals are huge and cost much less than typical cars. The look and feel of the car has put it over the top for me. Compared to the only other hybrid that gets this kind of fuel economy (Prius and Prius C) this car provides the perfect amount of space for my family (Prius C does not) and the interior beats the Prius any day. The layout of the car is more conventional and you are connected to the drive components for that real car feel.

Love the Insight. Watching mileage increase helps me adjust my foot on the gas. :)> Acceleration, braking and handling are very responsive. Time will tell if the mileage is as good as advertised. So far, it's great.

There is a lot of road noise on the freeway. It has an excellent turning radius. The gas mileage is amazing! The batteries that were originally put in go dead, but Honda replaces them under warranty. The interior is skimpy to save on the weight, but not having all the extra stuff is nice. The outside takes some getting used to with the wheel skirts, but I have come to like it. Overall it is a joy to drive and I look forward to getting every time.

Overview
The Honda Insight debuted in the United States in late 1999 and was the first hybrid (gasoline/electric) automobile available in the U.S. With fantastic fuel economy, this is certainly a technology we all should take seriously.
The Insight has a small three-cylinder motor and electrical backup to help with acceleration, but drivers should be careful how much and how hard they accelerate, since that drains the battery.
The Insight comes with a specially designed five-speed manual transmission and has an aerodynamic design to maximize fuel efficiency. The Insight can go up to 70 miles on one gallon of gasoline.
