Is the Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the Honda Civic is a strong used-car pick if you want a compact car that blends efficiency, practicality, and driving enjoyment. The all-generations owner rating is 4.47/5 across every model year in the data.

31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is generally manageable when you choose carefully and verify maintenance and history, especially on older examples.
What should I look for when buying a used Honda Civic?
Across all model years, at 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 88.3% |
| 2025 | 86.7% |
| 2024 | 84.7% |

| 2016 | 47.9% |
| 2015 | 48.5% |

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2023 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Honda Sensing collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS)
- Infotainment: 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: 31 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and 34 mpg in combined driving
Which Honda Civic trim should I buy?
The 2026 Honda Civic offers these trims:
- LX: The entry trim uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque, plus a CVT and driving modes including Normal, Sport, and Econ. It suits you if you want the most affordable way into the lineup.
- Sport: This trim adds 18-inch wheels, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and eight speakers, making it the best-value pick for many shoppers who want more everyday convenience and a more polished feel.
- Sport Hybrid: The hybrid powertrain adds stronger performance and impressive efficiency, making it the right choice if you want the Civic's efficiency-focused setup.
- Sport Touring Hybrid: This trim adds larger 10.2-inch instrumentation and 9-inch infotainment displays, Google built-in, Alexa built-in, a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless smartphone charging, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system for the most tech-forward Civic experience.
- Si: The Si brings a non-hybrid turbocharged gas engine and a manual transmission, giving you the sport sedan choice in the lineup.
- Type R: The Type R is the performance-focused hatchback variant for shoppers who want the most aggressive Civic in the range.
What Honda Civic do most buyers choose?
The Honda Civic years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 5,671 | 35.4% |
| 2025 | 5,452 | 32.5% |
| 2023 | 4,805 | 34% |
| 2019 | 3,005 | 32.3% |
| 2026 | 2,858 | 30.7% |
| 2022 | 2,769 | 32.8% |
Higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more listings to compare, more pricing flexibility, and a better chance of finding the trim and condition you want. They also often sit near the sweet spot between newer features and broader availability.
What is the Honda Civic's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |

| 2019 | $17,454 | −4.47% |
| 2022 | $22,263 | −4.34% |
| 2025 | $25,380 | −3.72% |
| 2021 | $19,346 | −3.42% |
| 2018 | $16,222 | −2.64% |
| 2017 | $15,245 | −2.09% |
| 2016 | $13,803 | −1.58% |
| 2023 | $24,078 | −1.28% |
| 2024 | $25,092 | −1.08% |
| 2014 | $11,120 | −0.24% |
| 2015 | $12,290 | +1.7% |
Most Civic model years are moving lower year over year, which can work in your favor if you're shopping used. The pattern is especially helpful on recent models, where price drops can create better entry points without forcing you into much older inventory.
The 2014 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2015, 2014, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Honda Civic now or wait for the next model?

- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −3.72% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −1.08%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 32.5% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 35.4%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $25,092. The Honda Civic offers a roomy cabin, strong everyday practicality, and a balanced driving character that makes it easy to live with.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Five Civic sedans are available, and the lineup includes a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque, plus a hybrid setup that delivers 31 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and 34 mpg combined.
- Tech: The latest Civic offers a 7-inch digital instrumentation panel and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while higher trims add 10.2-inch instrumentation, a 9-inch infotainment display, Google built-in, Alexa built-in, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone charging.
- Safety: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assist.
- Starting price: For the 2026 model year, prices range from $25,790 to $34,690 with the destination charge.

Customers say
The Honda Civic has consistently garnered positive feedback from owners across its various model years, praised for its reliability, impressive fuel economy, and enjoyable driving experience. Shoppers appreciate the comfortable interiors and ample cargo space, making it a preferred choice among many families and first-time car buyers. However, some drivers have expressed concerns over the lack of certain modern features and the need for more power in acceleration across different models. Overall, the Honda Civic remains a solid choice for a dependable and fun-to-drive compact car.

I think this car offers a lot of value for the money. It comes with a strong set of features that make it comfortable, practical, and enjoyable to drive. The design looks modern, and it has many of the technology and safety features that most drivers are looking for today. One of the biggest strengths of this car is its balance between performance, comfort, and affordability. It feels like you get a lot without having to move into a much higher price range. While no vehicle is perfect, this car does a great job meeting the needs of most drivers. The overall package is competitive and well-rounded, making it a smart choice for someone looking for reliability, style, and everyday usability. Compared with other vehicles in its class, this car stands out as a strong contender and is definitely worth considering. It offers an attractive combination of features, value, and driving experience that makes it easy to recommend.

Car was super clean, better than what the pictures showed. Features are good and it was very low mileage. If I have to add something to the car, it would be the back up sensors and blind spot sensors. Other than that it was a great purchase

CarGurus recommends the 2023 Honda Civic
Summary
With 4,974 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,043, 33.6% of 2023 Honda Civic listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Honda Civic 4.88 / 5 stars.
80.8% of 2023 Honda Civic listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Honda Civic stands out as a compact car that feels more refined and upscale than its predecessor, while still keeping the Civic formula intact. It offers strong engine choices and updated technology, and its interior is a clear highlight thanks to the honeycomb mesh panel that conceals the HVAC vents and the better materials throughout. For shoppers who want a small car that is practical but not plain, that combination gives the Civic a more polished personality than many rivals.
What makes the 2023 model especially appealing is how broad its lineup is. The sedan and hatchback both remain available, and the hatchback adds real utility through its liftback design and flat-folding rear seats. Standard equipment on non-hybrid models includes Apple CarPlay and Honda Sensing, along with a 7-inch infotainment screen, LED headlights and taillights, push-button start, and automatic climate control. The Civic also has a strong safety record, with every model in this generation earning some form of Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
There are a few tradeoffs to keep in mind. The 2023 Civic is not the most affordable compact car, and some of its best features are reserved for higher trims. Owner feedback also suggests that comfort and fuel efficiency are major strengths, but some shoppers may be disappointed by the absence of features such as blind spot monitoring on certain versions. Even so, the 2023 Honda Civic remains distinctive because it blends everyday usability, good driving manners, and a more premium feel than many buyers expect from a compact car.
