What should I look for when buying a used Genesis G80?

Across all model years, at 73.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Highway Driving Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and lane-change assist technologies.
• Infotainment: a 27-inch OLED display that houses the digital instrumentation panel and infotainment touchscreen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: According to the EPA, the 3.5T should average 18 mpg in combined driving, which is not impressive. However, on our relatively flat Southern California fuel-economy observation route, which has a 50:50 mix of city and highway driving, the test car averaged 22.8 mpg. Later, when driven with more enthusiasm on our mountainous evaluation loop, the G80 3.5T returned 20.6 mpg, with an 18.7 mpg result for the city portion.

Which Genesis G80 trim should I buy?

The 2026 Genesis G80 offers these trims:

• 2.5T base: The entry setup centers on the turbocharged four-cylinder and gives you the G80’s core luxury-sedan character at the lowest price point.
• 2.5T Advanced: This is the best-value trim, adding more equipment while staying within the 2.5T lineup.
• 2.5T Sport Prestige: This trim adds a more upscale, fully equipped feel for shoppers who want a richer feature set.
• 3.5T Sport Prestige: This trim brings the twin-turbo V6 and a more performance-oriented setup.
• 3.5T Prestige Black: This trim adds the V6 with a more exclusive, top-end presentation.

What Genesis G80 do most buyers choose?

The Genesis G80 years with the most listings are 2018, 2025, and 2019.

Higher-volume years tend to be the easiest places to shop because you get more listings to compare and a better chance of finding the right color, mileage, and equipment mix. They also often become the most popular used picks because the market has had more time to absorb them.

What is the Genesis G80's resale value?

Most model years in the table are moving lower year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want more room to negotiate. One model year is rising, while several others are declining at a faster pace, especially among the newer entries. That pattern suggests you can find meaningful value in recent used G80s if you compare listings carefully.

The 2020, 2021, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Genesis G80 safe?

• 2026: 8/10
• 2025: 9/10
• 2022: 9/10
• 2021: 10/10
• 2018: 9/10
• 2017: 9/10

Highway Driving Assist combines adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and lane-change assist technologies.

For the safest used buy, the 2021 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.

Should I buy a used Genesis G80 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −4.28% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.84%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 32.8% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 37.1%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2018 model has the most listings at a current average price of $17,959. The Genesis G80 offers a classic luxury look, a quiet cabin, and a smooth, polished driving character.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The G80 3.5T’s twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 is a satisfying engine. It generates a robust 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque—increases of 75 hp and 80 lb-ft over the G80 2.5T’s 2.5-liter turbo-four. Both engines employ a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission, and the G80 has standard all-wheel drive (AWD).
• Tech: Genesis includes three years of complimentary connected services, five years of navigation map updates, and three-month trial subscriptions to a Wi-Fi hotspot and SiriusXM satellite radio. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the G80 supports saved driver profiles, a fingerprint authentication system, and digital key technology that turns a smartphone into the key.
• Safety: We were mostly impressed with the G80’s driver-assist tech, but we did experience some unexpected and aggravating behavior from its Highway Driving Assist system, which combines the G80’s adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and lane-change assist technologies to handle acceleration, braking, and steering for single-lane highway driving.
• Starting price: Base prices range from $59,945 to $81,495, including the $1,495 destination charge.

If you're buying used today, the 2018 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
