What should I look for when buying a used Genesis G80?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 76.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 97.2% |
| 2025 | 95.7% |
| 2024 | 91.6% |
| 2023 | 89.7% |
| 2022 | 85.3% |
| 2021 | 74.4% |
| 2020 | 67.9% |
| 2019 | 56.7% |
| 2018 | 58.4% |
| 2017 | 58.1% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Highway Driving Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and lane-change assist technologies.
- Infotainment: a 27-inch OLED display that houses the digital instrumentation panel and infotainment touchscreen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: According to the EPA, the 3.5T should average 18 mpg in combined driving, which is not impressive. However, on our relatively flat Southern California fuel-economy observation route, which has a 50:50 mix of city and highway driving, the test car averaged 22.8 mpg. Later, when driven with more enthusiasm on our mountainous evaluation loop, the G80 3.5T returned 20.6 mpg, with an 18.7 mpg result for the city portion. That was a pleasant surprise considering the four-cylinder G80 2.5T is rated at 23 mpg combined.
Which Genesis G80 trim should I buy?
The 2026 Genesis G80 offers these trims:
- base: The 2.5T base trim gives you the turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the entry point to the lineup.
- Advanced: This 2.5T trim adds more equipment while staying in the four-cylinder lineup, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
- Sport Prestige: Available with both the 2.5T and 3.5T, this trim brings the more upscale equipment and the strongest blend of luxury and features.
- Prestige Black: This 3.5T trim sits at the top of the lineup and adds the most exclusive presentation.
What Genesis G80 do most buyers choose?
The Genesis G80 years with the most listings are 2018, 2019, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 332 | 32.8% |
| 2019 | 284 | 33.5% |
| 2025 | 280 | 33.6% |
| 2017 | 267 | 32.6% |
| 2024 | 262 | 34.7% |
| 2023 | 234 | 34.2% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare and a wider spread of prices and deal quality. That usually makes it easier to find the right combination of features, mileage, and value.
What is the Genesis G80's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | $24,024 | −6.27% |
| 2024 | $43,961 | −6.22% |
| 2025 | $54,550 | −4.6% |
| 2019 | $21,815 | −3.57% |
| 2023 | $36,149 | −3.01% |
| 2021 | $30,878 | −1.93% |
| 2018 | $19,053 | −1.91% |
| 2017 | $15,742 | −1.23% |
Most model years are moving lower year over year, which can work in your favor if you're shopping used. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer and mid-cycle years, while the older years are changing more gradually. That pattern suggests you may find stronger value on recent used examples than you would on a brand-new purchase.
The 2017, 2018, and 2021 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Genesis G80 safe?
- 2026: 8/10
- 2025: 9/10
- 2022: 9/10
- 2021: 10/10
- 2018: 9/10
- 2017: 9/10
The G80’s Highway Driving Assist system combines adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and lane-change assist technologies for single-lane highway driving.
For the safest used buy, the 2021 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Genesis G80 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −4.6% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −6.22%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 33.6% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 34.7%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2018 model has the most listings at a current average price of $19,053. The Genesis G80 offers a classic luxury look, a smooth ride, and a premium cabin that make it feel special without chasing flash.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The G80 3.5T’s twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 is a satisfying engine. It generates a robust 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque—increases of 75 hp and 80 lb-ft over the G80 2.5T’s 2.5-liter turbo-four. Both engines employ a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission, and the G80 has standard all-wheel drive (AWD).
- Tech: Genesis includes three years of complimentary connected services, five years of navigation map updates, and three-month trial subscriptions to a Wi-Fi hotspot and SiriusXM satellite radio. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the G80 supports saved driver profiles, a fingerprint authentication system, and digital key technology that turns a smartphone into the key.
- Safety: The G80 3.5T adds a standard head-up display with a 12-inch image projection. It communicates plenty of information, and also shows when other vehicles are in the car’s blind spots. The G80 can also alert drivers when the stopped traffic ahead is once again on the move.
- Starting price: Base prices range from $59,945 to $81,495, including the $1,495 destination charge.
If you're buying used today, the 2018 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

I LOVE this car. I started with the G70 which is nice but I like special features. I’m accustomed to driving, BMW, Volvo, Mercedes luxury vehicles. When I tell you that my Genesis G80 is EVERYTHING! It is……I definitely would recommend this vehicle ♥️♥️♥️

Love this car I’m actually considered buying another one. I love all the features. I think the only thing I could probably use is Wif a hotspot Wi-Fi connected to your Genesis yearly subscription rather than have to go to another place like Verizon to keep it open.

Why it stands out
The 2018 Genesis G80 stands out by bringing a more performance-focused character to Genesis’s luxury sedan formula. According to the test-drive data, the G80 Sport pairs a twin-turbo V6 engine with an adaptive suspension and a disruptively attractive price, while Genesis also adds some additional performance to the model. That combination gives it a distinctive pitch: a luxury sports sedan that aims to feel more engaging without abandoning value.
The Sport trim also brings a reworked exterior and unique interior trim, which helps separate it from the rest of the lineup visually and inside the cabin. The same source notes the twin-turbo, 3.3-liter V6 already seen in the G90 coupe, underscoring that this version of the G80 is meant to emphasize stronger performance credentials. For buyers, the appeal is straightforward: a high-end sedan with added athleticism and a price that is meant to be especially compelling.
Owner feedback reinforces that value-oriented appeal. Reviews describe the 2018 Genesis G80 as impressing with its luxury features, build quality, and smooth driving experience, and many owners compare it favorably with higher-priced brands like BMW and Mercedes. A recurring drawback is the lack of rear charging ports for passengers, which may matter to shoppers who expect more convenience in the back seat.
