Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder
• Infotainment: a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google Built-In features
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax diesel is EPA-rated at 25 mpg combined with RWD and 24 mpg combined with 4WD. Fuel economy drops into typical truck territory with the gasoline powertrains. The TurboMax four-cylinder engine will achieve 20 mpg combined in some configurations, with the two V8 engines a few mpg lower.

Which GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

• AT4: adds a 2-inch lift kit, Rancho monotube shocks, a locking rear differential, and skid plates for off-road use

What GMC Sierra 1500 do most buyers choose?

The GMC Sierra 1500 years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

Higher-volume model years usually give you more choices in trims, colors, and equipment combinations, which makes it easier to find the right truck at the right price. They also tend to be the easiest years to compare across listings, since there are enough examples to show a clear spread in condition and pricing.

What is the GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

Most model years in the table are down year over year, and several recent ones show double-digit declines. That creates a favorable setup for used buyers, especially if you want a newer Sierra 1500 without paying the highest recent prices. The smaller declines on older model years suggest those trucks have been moving more gradually than the newer ones.

The 2014, 2015, and 2018 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used GMC Sierra 1500 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −15.09% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −11.67%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 36.5% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 36.7%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $46,567. The GMC Sierra 1500 offers a premium-feeling cabin and a broad mix of trims that make it easy to tailor the truck to work, family, or luxury use.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Base models get a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine dubbed TurboMax that produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, and the Duramax turbodiesel 3.0-liter inline-six produces 305 hp and 495 lb-ft.
• Tech: SLE and higher models get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Google Built-In features.
• Safety: Denali and Denali Ultimate models can also be equipped with Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driver-assistance system, and our test vehicle also had the recently added Super Cruise active lane-change feature.
• Starting price: Pricing starts at $39,595 for a base Pro model with RWD and no frills.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
