(38 reviews)Its 2024 and my daily is my first car I bought and that is my 1973 Ford Pinto, shes never broke down on me once, always reliable and is a blast to drive, they only got a bad rep because of the CEO of Ford at the time and his poor choice of words, the Pinto was no safer or dangerous then any other import or small car in 73.
Very good little station wagon. Acceleration, handling, and braking were all excellent. Got good gas mileage, even better after the belt for the exhaust air pump broke (jump up to 34 mpg). It even went very well in the snow. Had no major problems. Our first new car drove for 3 years and sold for $900.00 less than we paid for it. Family out grew it.
A lot of people make out the Pinto as a joke. However, I thought mine was nothing short of fabulous. I bought a '72 Pinto new in September of '72 after my Fiat bankrupted me. It was a 'Bare-Bones' unit, with the 2.0L engine, 4-Speed manual. I beat the thing unmercifully for four years and 84,000 miles and it NEVER broke or let me down. I'd love to have another some day!
That car was AWESOME!! Got it from my Grandfather. Came from BC so it had little rust and only a few dents. It had four seatbelts but would hold seven teenagers. Performance was alright for an old carb 4 banger. When the choke stuck on it was a blast to try and stop. No power brakes on that baby. Maintenance was pretty easy, not much to go wrong with it. Although we did have to order the rear shocks from Arkansa. Great winter car, if you didn't mind wearing snowpants while driving. Heater was a little undersized. But that car would always start in the cold, and would go through any amount of snow. RWD!!! It was a sad time when the rusties caught up with it and the oil pan became a sieve. Awesome memories. Thanks Grandpa!
It is a great car for kicking around town. your not going to burn rubber off the light, but you will draw attention cruising around in it as people see it and relive a little of their youth. its a reliable car and the motors will live forever. maintenance is so easy under the hood the car is wide open (partially because of the tiny motor). great car. i would recommend to anybody.
