What should I look for when buying a used Dodge Charger?
Across all model years, at 64.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 100% |
| 2023 | 78.6% |
| 2022 | 75% |
| 2021 | 64.9% |
| 2020 | 56% |
| 2019 | 51.4% |
| 2018 | 48.6% |
| 2017 | 48.1% |
| 2016 | 49.9% |
| 2015 | 49.7% |
| 2014 | 51.2% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Active Driving Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking with Vulnerable Road Users Detection, Active Lane Management, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Blind-spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Drowsy Driver Detection.
- Infotainment: Uconnect 5 with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto.
Which Dodge Charger trim should I buy?
The 2026 Dodge Charger offers these trims:
- Charger R/T: The entry powertrain brings 420 horsepower and all-wheel drive, making it the starting point for buyers who want the Charger’s core performance character.
- Charger Scat Pack: This version adds 550 horsepower, an eight-speed automatic transmission, Launch Control, Line Lock, and rear-wheel-drive mode for buyers who want the most aggressive gas-powered setup.
- Charger Scat Pack Plus: This trim adds the 16-inch display, built-in navigation, wireless charging, Turn Signal Active Blind Spot View, and a 360-degree camera, making it the best-value choice for shoppers who want the richest mix of performance and convenience.
What Dodge Charger do most buyers choose?
The Dodge Charger years with the most listings are 2022, 2023, and 2021.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 4,424 | 29.4% |
| 2023 | 3,504 | 30.3% |
| 2021 | 2,961 | 27.8% |
| 2020 | 2,417 | 26.7% |
| 2019 | 1,987 | 26.9% |
| 2018 | 1,587 | 26.3% |
These higher-volume years tend to attract more shoppers because they offer a strong mix of availability, newer features, and a wide range of prices. That gives you more chances to find the right trim, mileage, and condition for your budget.
What is the Dodge Charger's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | $18,558 | −7.59% |
| 2014 | $10,475 | −6.41% |
| 2021 | $26,538 | −5.73% |
| 2019 | $19,951 | −5.23% |
| 2020 | $23,220 | −4.65% |
| 2015 | $13,068 | −3.05% |
| 2016 | $15,440 | −0.9% |
| 2017 | $18,274 | +1.46% |
| 2022 | $29,035 | +7.05% |
| 2023 | $35,137 | +16.08% |
Most model years are down year over year, which can work in your favor if you’re shopping used. A few newer years are still rising, though, so the market is not moving in one direction across the board. The strongest value opportunities are in the years showing the steepest declines, while the newest examples continue to command premium pricing.
The 2016 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2023, 2022, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.

Customers say
The Dodge Charger has consistently impressed drivers across its various model years, praised primarily for its powerful performance, spacious and comfortable interior, and overall sporty appeal. Owners admire the exhilarating driving experience offered by its strong engine options, especially the V8 variants. However, common criticisms revolve around safety features and fuel economy, with some wishing for more modern technology and luxury elements inside the car. Overall, the Charger remains a favorite among those who enjoy a blend of performance and comfort, while also facing challenges such as pricing and gear reliability.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Charger stands out by blending performance-car personality with everyday sedan practicality. It has four full doors and five-passenger seating, and it also offers a spacious cabin, large rear seats, and a large trunk. That combination makes it unusual in the modern sedan market, where the Charger is meant to feel like a fun car without giving up the usability many buyers want.
Its appeal also comes from breadth. The Charger offers a wide variety of potent powertrains and the availability of all-wheel drive, so it can be tailored to different priorities. It also provides the latest tech and infotainment features, while its styling helps it stand out in a crowd. At the same time, it is not without tradeoffs: fuel economy is poor, and advanced safety features are not standard.
