What should I look for when buying a used Dodge Charger?
Across all model years, at 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 100% |
| 2023 | 78.4% |
| 2022 | 74.7% |
| 2021 | 64.9% |
| 2020 | 56% |
| 2019 | 50.9% |
| 2018 | 48.2% |
| 2017 | 47.6% |
| 2016 | 50.2% |
| 2015 | 48.5% |
| 2014 | 48.6% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2023 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Active Driving Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking with Vulnerable Road Users Detection, Active Lane Management, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Blind-spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Drowsy Driver Detection.
- Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and built-in navigation on Plus models.
Which Dodge Charger trim should I buy?
The 2026 Dodge Charger offers these trims:
- R/T: The entry powertrain brings 420 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive, making it the starting point for buyers who want Charger performance with everyday traction.
- Scat Pack: This trim adds 550 horsepower, an eight-speed automatic transmission, Launch Control, Line Lock, and five drive modes, and it suits buyers who want the strongest gas-powered Charger experience.
- Scat Pack Plus: This version adds the larger 16-inch display, wireless charging, built-in navigation, Turn Signal Active Blind Spot View, and a 360-degree camera, making it the best-value choice for shoppers who want more convenience and tech.
What Dodge Charger do most buyers choose?
The Dodge Charger years with the most listings are 2022, 2023, and 2021.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 4,389 | 30.3% |
| 2023 | 3,488 | 31.1% |
| 2021 | 2,930 | 29.1% |
| 2020 | 2,367 | 27.6% |
| 2019 | 1,936 | 27.2% |
| 2018 | 1,540 | 26.9% |
These higher-volume years tend to draw the most attention because they combine broad availability with strong deal percentages, giving you more chances to find the right configuration at a competitive price.
What is the Dodge Charger's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2014 | $10,238 | −8.49% |
| 2018 | $18,864 | −6.26% |
| 2021 | $26,611 | −5.64% |
| 2019 | $19,896 | −5.1% |
| 2020 | $23,273 | −4.56% |
| 2015 | $13,110 | −3.31% |
| 2016 | $15,468 | −0.71% |
| 2017 | $18,336 | +2.96% |
| 2022 | $28,903 | +6.8% |
| 2023 | $34,882 | +15.18% |
Most model years are moving lower year over year, which can work in your favor if you are shopping used. A few newer years are still rising, so the strongest demand appears to be concentrated in the freshest examples. The spread also shows that some older Chargers are softening faster than others, which can create better entry points for value-focused buyers.
The 2016 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2023, 2022, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.

4.7 Overall rating
Customers say
The Dodge Charger has consistently impressed drivers across its various model years, praised primarily for its powerful performance, spacious and comfortable interior, and overall sporty appeal. Owners admire the exhilarating driving experience offered by its strong engine options, especially the V8 variants. However, common criticisms revolve around safety features and fuel economy, with some wishing for more modern technology and luxury elements inside the car. Overall, the Charger remains a favorite among those who enjoy a blend of performance and comfort, while also facing challenges such as pricing and gear reliability.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Charger stands out by combining sedan practicality with a distinctly performance-focused personality. It offers four full doors and five-passenger seating, along with a spacious cabin, large rear seats, and a large trunk. That mix makes it unusual among modern sedans: it is meant to be useful for everyday driving, but it still aims to feel exciting rather than merely sensible.
Another part of its appeal is the breadth of its powertrain lineup and the availability of all-wheel drive. The Charger also provides the latest tech and infotainment features, which helps it feel current even as it leans into classic muscle-car styling. Buyers looking for a family sedan with more attitude than most will likely appreciate that balance, though the Charger is not without tradeoffs. Its poor fuel economy and the fact that advanced safety features are not standard may matter to shoppers who prioritize efficiency or a fuller list of driver-assistance equipment.
