Why it stands out

The 2022 Dodge Charger stands out as a modern muscle car that pays homage to its storied heritage, offering a muscular design reminiscent of classic iterations while incorporating contemporary engineering. With options ranging from a robust V6 to the supercharged Hellcat variant boasting an impressive 807 horsepower, the Charger delivers exhilarating performance alongside family-friendly features like spacious interiors and ample trunk space. In an era of rapid automotive evolution, the Charger remains a nostalgic symbol of traditional gas-powered vehicles, appealing to enthusiasts who appreciate its blend of raw power and practicality.

Other model years to consider

The 2021 Dodge Charger stands out as a moderately suitable option, offering a balance of value with an average price of $27,191.10 and a high user rating of 4.8/5, reflecting strong user satisfaction. The 2020 model is also a compelling choice, priced at $23,310.47 while maintaining the same user rating, indicating consistent performance and satisfaction among drivers. For budget-conscious buyers, the 2016 Charger presents good value at $15,133.53; its solid user rating of 4.8/5 and expert score of 8.2/10 enhance its market positioning as a reliable vehicle with favorable deals available.

Model years to approach with caution

The market metrics for the Dodge Charger model years indicate a variety of considerations for potential buyers. The 2015 and 2018 models show average prices of $12,853.61 and $20,047.79 respectively, but both have comparatively lower ratings and a high percentage of listings not categorized as good or great deals, which may influence purchasing decisions. Additionally, older models like the 2011 and 2012 exhibit similar pricing trends with reduced deal availability, suggesting that prospective buyers should carefully evaluate their options within this range to find the most suitable choice.

These recommendations are based on CarGurus' proprietary market data from December 17, 2025, CarGurus experts' opinions, and generative AI.

Customers say

The Dodge Charger has consistently impressed drivers across its various model years, praised primarily for its powerful performance, spacious and comfortable interior, and overall sporty appeal. Owners admire the exhilarating driving experience offered by its strong engine options, especially the V8 variants. However, common criticisms revolve around safety features and fuel economy, with some wishing for more modern technology and luxury elements inside the car. Overall, the Charger remains a favorite among those who enjoy a blend of performance and comfort, while also facing challenges such as pricing and gear reliability.

I love my car. Lots of power , nice sounding exhaust, nice features such as heated seats and steering wheel is nice when its cold out. And I got a great deal as its pretty much a brand new car with only 7,000 miles on it. Very happy with my purchase!

Great bang for the buck right now. They took $12k off MSRP. No other vehicle in the market has that bargain under $40k. The V6 has 300hp, so plenty of pickup, tons of interior space and the infotainment/sound system is pretty dang good. Seats are very comfortable for long drives.

I absolutely love this car. Picked up an admittedly high mileage needs a couple minor things 2012 pursuit model for 6800 bucks. Needed a new transmission pan gasket, oil pressure sensor, and new plugs. Love the way it handles. Has plenty of power, is super fun to drive, and it is SHOCKING how many people give you compliments for a car that is literally the lowest trim available with the V8! Not to mention, its great to have a fun, fast, four door vehicle since I have a large family!

Dodge Charger FAQs

Is a Dodge Charger SRT fast?

Even more impressive is the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody, which hits 60 MPH in a blistering 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 203 MPH. These performance figures make the Charger SRT one of the fastest and most thrilling sedans on the market, perfect for those who crave high-speed excitement.

Why is Dodge discontinuing the Charger?

Dodge has decided to discontinue the current versions of the Charger and Challenger as part of their strategic shift towards more sustainable and efficient electric vehicles (EVs). This move aligns with the broader automotive industry's transition to cleaner technologies. The production of these iconic muscle cars officially ended in December 2023, marking the end of an era for Dodge's traditional gas-powered performance vehicles. This change reflects Dodge's commitment to embracing the future of automotive innovation while acknowledging the legacy of these legendary models.

Which is better, Charger or Challenger?

Choosing between the Dodge Charger and Challenger often comes down to personal preference and specific needs. The Charger, being a four-door sedan, offers more space and practicality, making it a bit more expensive but ideal for those who need extra room. On the other hand, the Challenger, a two-door coupe, is slightly more performance-oriented and offers a sportier driving experience. Both cars share excellent safety features and deliver robust performance, so whether you prioritize space or a classic muscle car feel, either choice will provide a satisfying driving experience.

Is a Dodge Charger reliable?

Yes, the Dodge Charger is known for its reliability, especially in recent model years. These ratings reflect the car's consistent performance, durable build, and the positive experiences of many owners. The base model's 3.6-liter V6 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission provides a smooth and efficient driving experience, while the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 offers exhilarating power for those who seek more punch.
