Why it stands out
The 2022 Dodge Challenger stands out as a modern muscle car that keeps the classic coupe formula alive while offering a wide range of personalities. It is a five-passenger coupe with a user-friendly Uconnect infotainment system that includes a touchscreen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, which helps make it feel more practical than its old-school styling might suggest. It was also designed on a platform suitable for both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, giving it unusual flexibility for the segment.
What makes the Challenger especially distinctive is the breadth of its powertrain and performance choices. Over the years, it was offered with Pentastar V6 and Hemi V8 engines, along with Tremec six-speed manual, five-speed automatic, and ZF eight-speed automatic transmissions. Performance hardware such as adaptive suspension, launch control, Brembo brakes and calipers, and Mopar tuning options added to its appeal, while special editions and trims brought extra visual drama through spoilers, hood scoops, unique grilles, special upholstery, and badging. Widebody versions were offered for some trims in 2019 and 2020, adding broader fenders.
For buyers, the Challenger’s appeal is its mix of character, variety, and everyday usability. It was known for head-turning colors and numerous special editions, and later examples are generally regarded as better than earlier ones. At the same time, it is worth noting that many were neglected or abused, and the model years from 2012 to 2014 are known for engine problems.
