What should I look for when buying a used BMW M2?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 97.6% |
| 2025 | 96% |
| 2024 | 93.9% |
| 2023 | 92.5% |

Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: BMW Driving Assistant suite
- Infotainment: iDrive 8 interface with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy with the six-speed stick-shift is 16 mpg city, 24 highway, 19 combined. With the eight-speed automatic, fuel economy is 16 mpg city, 23 highway, 19 combined.
Which BMW M2 trim should I buy?
The 2023 BMW M2 offers these trims:
- M2: The standard 2023 M2 brings the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, rear-wheel drive, a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic, an Active M limited-slip differential, and standard M Compound brakes. It also includes the curved display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a strong mix of performance and everyday usability that makes it the best-value choice.
- M2 with Carbon Package: This version adds carbon-fiber interior trim, carbon-fiber paddle shifters, an M Carbon roof, and M Carbon bucket seats for buyers who want a more focused cabin and a more track-inspired feel.
What BMW M2 do most buyers choose?
The BMW M2 years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 229 | 32.8% |
| 2025 | 224 | 33% |
| 2023 | 146 | 32.9% |
| 2026 | 125 | 32.8% |
| 2019 | 107 | 34.6% |
| 2020 | 90 | 41.1% |
Higher-volume years tend to be the easiest to shop because you usually get more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right color, mileage, and price. They also tend to attract the broadest mix of buyers, which helps keep the market active.
What is the BMW M2's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | $58,165 | −10.59% |
| 2024 | $65,922 | −1.92% |
The BMW M2's prices are moving lower across both model years shown here, which can create better opportunities for used buyers. One year has seen a much sharper drop, while the other has eased down only slightly. That gives you a clear spread of value depending on how recent you want to go.
The 2024 and 2020 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

What a fun car! Quick, tight, sporty, comfortable, and really good looking… it checks all the boxes. Even though it’s already 8 years old, it doesn’t feel outdated. There is just enough technology to keep it modern, and the analog gauge cluster nods to the performance side. I immediately missed a coolant temp gauge, however That’s just something I’ve gotten used to keeping an eye on. The N55 has plenty of power for a middle-aged enthusiast who spends most of his drive time in traffic and has never been on a track. It’s an impressive little machine.

Aside from the aftermarket spoiler that was put on this car (just not my taste), the M2 was made for people who love to drive. Even without the manual gearbox, it checks almost every other box youd want in a great driving experience. Steering lacks a little bit of feel, but other than that its hard to beat the throttle response and sonorous music coming from under the hood.

Fast and just plain fun to drive. More tech than the older model M2 with lines similar to other late model BMWs. The 6 speed manual on this model adds more control and driving thrills for those with more traditional sensibilities.

Why it stands out
The 2024 BMW M2 stands out as a compact performance coupe that blends serious speed with everyday usability. It has a 14-cubic-foot trunk, a rear seat that is fine for two adults, and plenty of room for the two front occupants, so it brings more practicality than many buyers expect from a car with this much focus on driving enjoyment. BMW also gave it a stiff chassis with near 50:50 weight distribution, standard Adaptive M Suspension, powerful brakes, and a stability control system with 10 settings, all of which reinforce its track-ready character.
Power comes from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six rated at 453 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, with either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic. BMW says 0-60 mph is handled in less than four seconds, and the rear-wheel-drive layout keeps the car true to the M formula. Inside, the Curved Display layout, iDrive 8 operating system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and standard Harman Kardon audio give the cabin a modern feel, while standard driver-assistance features add useful everyday coverage.
The tradeoffs are the ones you would expect from a focused sports coupe. The M2 is not the easiest vehicle to enter or exit because of its aggressively bolstered front seats, and the ride is stiff in normal driving. Fuel economy is also modest, at 16 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined for the automatic, with the manual rated at 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. Even so, the 2024 BMW M2 remains appealing because it delivers strong performance, real driver involvement, and enough practicality to work as more than just a weekend toy.
