For 2020, its styling was refreshed with sharper edges, aggressive aerodynamic bits that included a front splitter and rear diffuser, and a move from 19- to 20-inch wheels. It also kept the R8’s appeal as a car that feels special without being intimidating, thanks to Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system and the brand’s focus on a refined, well-engineered package.
Performance remained a major part of the 2020 R8’s identity. The base R8 V10 was rated at 562 hp and 406 lb-ft, with a top speed of 201 mph, or 200 mph for the Spyder. The R8 V10 Plus was renamed Performance for 2020 and kept its 602-hp V10 engine. Audi also offered the 2020 R8 Decennium, a limited edition of 50 units in the U.S. that celebrated 10 years of V10 engines in the supercar, with Mythos Black paint, matte bronze wheels, a bronze-painted intake manifold, and copper-colored stitching inside.
There are tradeoffs, though. The 2020 R8 no longer offered the rear-wheel-drive RWS version, so all models featured quattro AWD. And while the car’s cabin was modernized with a 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit, Audi did not equip the supercar with many advanced driver assistance systems, and features such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist were not offered. Even so, the 2020 Audi R8 remains appealing for buyers who want a dramatic, high-performance exotic that is still relatively easy to live with.
