In its second generation, the A5 was redesigned for the 2018 model year and expanded beyond the original coupe formula to include a five-door Sportback, giving buyers a sleeker alternative with more cargo flexibility. The Sportback’s sloping roofline opens to a generous cargo area, while the coupe and convertible remain the more style-focused choices. Audi also gave the A5 a rear-biased quattro AWD system, helping it keep some of the sporty character that has long defined the nameplate.
For 2024, Audi added extra standard driver assistance tech, including adaptive cruise control and a lane-assist function. The A5 also carries a 10.1-inch touchscreen, which replaced the older infotainment system for the 2020 model year, and its cabin includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Buyers looking at this generation get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and the 2021 update added a mild hybrid system that boosted output to 261 hp. That makes the 2024 A5 appealing as a refined, well-equipped luxury car that still offers respectable performance.
There are tradeoffs, though. The coupe’s trunk is less practical than the Sportback’s cargo area, and the convertible gives up around three cubic feet of trunk space because of its folding soft top. The manual transmission was dropped after 2019, so the 2024 A5 is aimed more at comfort, technology, and all-wheel-drive confidence than at old-school driver involvement.
