Is the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser a good car?

Yes — you rate it 5/5, and our experts give it 7.5/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser is built around a body-on-frame layout and a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, so it keeps the model’s rugged identity while moving toward a more modern, efficiency-minded setup. It’s aimed at buyers who want serious trail hardware and everyday comfort in the same package, and it delivers that with full-time four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, locking differentials, CRAWL Control, and downhill assist control.

The trade-offs are that it’s only adequately powerful on the road, it doesn’t offer a third row, rear-seat legroom can be tight, and cargo space is limited. It also runs on premium unleaded fuel and can tow up to 6,000 pounds.

Even so, the Land Cruiser’s market position looks healthy, with 31.1% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser is presented as a durable, body-on-frame SUV with a hybrid powertrain, and Toyota’s reputation for reliability is part of its appeal. The expert evaluation also describes it as a refined yet rugged SUV that can handle commuting during the week and weekend escapes without losing its composure.

The powertrain is described as having more than adequate oomph, and the truck-based chassis is built for serious off-roading rather than delicate use. Toyota also includes complimentary five-year subscriptions for Service Connect, Safety Connect, and Remote Connect, which adds some ownership convenience.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this is still a premium, capability-focused SUV with a complex off-road and hybrid setup, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 99% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the Land Cruiser has seen trail use or heavy towing. Pay close attention to the suspension, brakes, tires, underbody protection, and any signs of off-road wear, since this SUV is designed to be used hard. It’s also worth checking that the cabin features and driver-assistance systems work as expected, because the higher-spec versions add more equipment.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 1958 has round headlights and cloth seats, while the higher trim level gets rectangular lamps and standard artificial leather upholstery. The more expensive version also offers more colors and more features, so the 1958 is the simpler, more budget-focused choice.
• Powertrain: The Land Cruiser uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder hybrid system with 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive. It’s tuned for capability and efficiency rather than quick acceleration.
• Safety package: Every Land Cruiser has Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes high-beam assist, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors with automatic low-speed braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and lane-centering assist with automatic emergency stop capability. Blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe-exit assist are also standard.
• Infotainment: The 1958 gets a 7-inch digital driver display and an 8-inch touchscreen. The higher trim level upgrades to a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and wireless phone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The Land Cruiser is rated at 23 mpg combined on premium fuel.

Which 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser trim should I buy?

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser is offered in 2 trim levels: Land Cruiser 1958 and Land Cruiser.

Here's the short version:

• Land Cruiser 1958: This is the value play if you want the Land Cruiser’s core off-road hardware and don’t need the extra tech and upscale touches. It has the simpler display setup, cloth seats, and the more basic exterior treatment, so it makes the most sense if you care more about capability than luxury.
• Land Cruiser: This is the better choice if you want the version that feels more complete day to day. It adds the larger screens, wireless smartphone integration, more available features, and the more upscale cabin presentation, making it the best-value trim for most shoppers.

The higher trim also brings the more advanced tech stack, while the Premium Package adds features such as a 14-speaker JBL audio system, a digital rearview mirror, a head-up display, lane-change assist, front cross-traffic alert, and Traffic Jam Assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have some room to shop carefully without expecting a flood of bargain inventory.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 209 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 99.0% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser safe?

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side-impact NHTSA testing. It also earns mostly Good IIHS ratings, with some Acceptable and Marginal scores in the mix.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, and it includes high-beam assist, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors with automatic low-speed braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist with automatic emergency stop capability, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe-exit assist are also standard.

The Premium Package adds lane-change assist, front cross-traffic alert, and Traffic Jam Assist. One caveat is that the updated moderate overlap frontal test produced a Marginal result for rear-seat passenger protection, and the more expensive Land Cruiser’s rectangular headlights score lower than the 1958’s round headlights.

Should I buy a 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2027 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2027 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 99% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2027 Land Cruiser adds limited updates, including a new paint color, available heated and ventilated rear seats, and an accessory high-mounted air intake.

The bottom line: If you want the latest version of this rugged, efficiency-minded Land Cruiser formula, the 2027 is the one to target. If you’re shopping mainly on price, a nearby model year may be the better path, especially if you can find a cleaner example with the equipment you want at a lower asking price.
