Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

$120,850 is the starting point for the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and that price reflects a flagship luxury sedan built around technology, craftsmanship, and comfort. Mercedes gives it the second generation of its MBUX infotainment interface, up to five screens, a new 3D driver display with eye tracking, rear-axle steering, and a rear airbag system placed in front of rear passengers for the first time.

It also offers a broad range of powertrains, from the S 500’s turbocharged inline-six to the S 580’s twin-turbo V8, plus plug-in hybrid options for buyers who want more electrification and performance. The tradeoff is cost: it is expensive to buy, fuel, maintain, and insure.

For shoppers who want a deeply luxurious sedan with advanced tech and serious speed, the 2026 S-Class makes a strong case. 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is positioned as a flagship luxury sedan that emphasizes advanced technology, comfort, and craftsmanship. It also brings substantial hardware, including multiple screens, rear-axle steering, and a new rear airbag system, which reinforces its role as a showcase for Mercedes engineering.

That kind of complexity can be appealing if you want the latest features, but it also means long-term ownership risk can be higher for used buyers who want simple, low-stress maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the car’s equipment and service records match the listing. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the electronics, suspension, and interior condition, since this is a highly complex luxury sedan where small issues can become expensive.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 260 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 96.9% of listings are accident-free.

Should I buy a 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It keeps the S-Class feeling current with only small changes.

The bottom line: If you want the newest technology and the strongest showcase of Mercedes’ current ideas, the 2026 is the primary path to consider. If you are more price-sensitive and want a similar flagship experience, the 2025 is the better secondary path to compare closely.
