Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a flagship luxury sedan that leans hard into technology, craftsmanship, and comfort. It offers the second generation of Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment interface, up to five screens on board, a new 3D driver display system, rear-axle steering, and a rear airbag system designed for rear passengers.

It also gives you a wide spread of powertrain choices, from the S 500’s turbocharged inline-six mild hybrid to the S 580’s twin-turbo V8 mild hybrid, plus plug-in hybrid options for buyers who want more electrification and performance. The tradeoff is cost: it is the most expensive vehicle in its class, and it remains costly to fuel, maintain, and insure.

If you want a deeply luxurious sedan with advanced tech and serious speed, this fits the brief well. 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is presented as a highly advanced flagship focused on comfort, technology, and safety. Its feature set includes rear-axle steering, a new rear airbag system, and a broad range of sophisticated powertrains, all of which reinforce its premium mission.

That same complexity is part of the ownership equation, especially in a car that is expensive to fuel, maintain, and insure. For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by prioritizing condition, service history, and how well the car’s advanced systems have been maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the car’s service records match its premium positioning. Put inspection priority on the condition of the electronics, comfort features, and any equipment tied to the car’s advanced technology, since those systems are central to the ownership experience.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 271 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 97.0% of listings are accident-free.

Should I buy a 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It keeps the S-Class current with only small changes.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version with the latest tech and a strong share of clean inventory, the 2026 is the primary path to consider. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a look because it stays close to the same core mission while potentially offering a lower entry point.
