Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a flagship luxury sedan that leans hard into technology, craftsmanship, and comfort. Mercedes-Benz positions it as its showcase for advanced features, and that shows up in the car’s lavish luxury, strong safety systems, and latest tech.

It is especially appealing if you want a large luxury sedan that feels cutting-edge and deeply refined. For 2026, Mercedes added new interior and exterior color palettes, a new Exclusive trim, and the option to add the Executive Rear Seat Package Plus for the first time. The current generation also offers up to five screens on board, a 3D driver display system that uses eye tracking to create the illusion of depth, rear-axle steering to help maneuverability, and a rear airbag system that places airbags in front of rear passengers for the first time.

The tradeoff is cost: it is expensive to buy new, and fuel, maintenance, and insurance can be high, so it is very much a car chosen for desire rather than value. With 26.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively, but this is still a premium purchase.

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is built around luxury, technology, and comfort, with Mercedes-Benz positioning it as the brand’s flagship showcase for advanced features. That focus gives you a highly refined sedan with strong safety systems and a long list of high-end equipment.

At the same time, many of its advanced safety and driver-assist systems are still tied to option packages, which can make ownership more complex and expensive. For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is mainly about the cost and complexity of maintaining a deeply equipped luxury car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the car’s equipment and option packages match the listing. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the electronics, comfort features, and any high-cost systems that matter most to you, since this is a technology-heavy luxury sedan. Focus on overall condition and maintenance history, because the S-Class is the kind of car where deferred upkeep can become expensive quickly.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find meaningful choice.

• Deal availability: 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 264 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 97.7% of listings are accident-free.

Should I buy a 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It offers a polished flagship experience with broad appeal and only small updates.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version with updated colors, a new trim, and the latest rear-seat and tech enhancements, the 2026 is the better primary target. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a look because it delivers the core S-Class experience with only modest differences.
