New & Used 2026 Lexus IS for Sale nearSan Luis Obispo, CA

Is the 2026 Lexus IS a good car?

The 2026 Lexus IS earns a 6.8/10 expert rating, and the refreshed model is aimed at you if you want a small sports sedan that feels polished and engaging. Lexus updated the exterior and interior, added the latest digital instrumentation, infotainment, and driver-assistance tech, and re-tuned the steering and suspension for 2026. The standout strength is Performance at 8/10.

The trade-offs are clear: the lineup is simplified, the car is still not especially practical, and the cons call out poor fuel economy and not much cargo space. Even so, the IS 350 is described as enjoyable to drive, high in quality, and backed by a long-standing reputation for reliability. With 39.7% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent amount of market flexibility.

Is the 2026 Lexus IS reliable?

The 2026 Lexus IS is presented as a strong reliability play, with the overview emphasizing Lexus’ long-standing reputation for reliability and the expert evaluation calling out a good reliability track record. The performance write-up also describes the V6 as smooth and refined, and the cost-effectiveness section says that, with proper maintenance, the IS will likely last a long time without requiring many repairs.

You also get two complimentary scheduled maintenance visits, though both happen during the first year of ownership. For a used buyer, the main long-term ownership risk is that the car’s premium-fuel appetite and city-driving fuel costs can add up even if repair needs stay modest.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Lexus IS?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, and pay close attention to condition because the model’s safety ratings are incomplete and some cars may have optional equipment that changes the ownership experience. Focus especially on whether the car has the features and packages you want, since the lineup includes meaningful equipment differences.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Three trim levels are available, all wearing F Sport nomenclature. The F Sport Design is the least expensive, while the F Sport sharpens the focus on performance and offers an optional Handling Package. A limited-production run of F Sport Special Appearance Package models is also available. The base F Sport Design is the one to scrutinize for feature gaps if you want the more performance-oriented hardware and options.
• Powertrain: The IS 350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 311 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. RWD models use an eight-speed automatic, while AWD models use a six-speed automatic. Lexus recommends premium fuel, and the car is EPA-rated at 22 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, pedestrian/cyclist/motorcyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, intersection/oncoming vehicle assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and a safe-exit warning system are also standard. Optional upgrades include a surround-view camera system, parking assistance with automatic braking, rear cross-traffic automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses two 12.3-inch displays, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The touchscreen runs Lexus Interface software, and connected services can add navigation, remote start, and an SOS emergency button depending on the plan.
• Fuel efficiency: The IS 350 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg combined, and the review notes that the potential fuel bill is no joke, especially if you regularly drive in the city.

Which 2026 Lexus IS trim should I buy?

The 2026 Lexus IS is offered in 3 trim levels: F Sport Design, F Sport, and F Sport Special Appearance Package.

Here's the short version:

• F Sport Design: This is the least expensive way into the lineup, and it gives you the refreshed IS 350 experience with the V6, the updated cabin, and the standard safety and tech equipment. It makes the most sense if you want the new model’s core strengths without paying for extra performance hardware.
• F Sport: This is the best-value trim if you want the sharper driving character the IS is known for. It adds a firmer suspension, and it’s the only trim that offers the optional Handling Package with a limited-slip rear differential, a performance-tuned adaptive suspension, and additional driving modes. It’s the one to choose if you care most about the car’s sporty side.
• F Sport Special Appearance Package: This limited-production version is for you if styling exclusivity matters more than value. The content identifies it as a special appearance model, so it’s the pick for shoppers who want something rarer rather than the most equipment for the money.

Safety-package note: the standard driver-assistance suite is broad, but some features remain optional, including the surround-view camera system, parking assistance with automatic braking, rear cross-traffic automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.

Is the 2026 Lexus IS safe?

The 2026 Lexus IS has incomplete safety ratings, with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety showing a Marginal score in the moderate overlap front crash test and Good or Acceptable headlight ratings depending on trim level. The IIHS also gave Good ratings for front-crash prevention tech in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian testing.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, pedestrian/cyclist/motorcyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, intersection/oncoming vehicle assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and a safe-exit warning system are also standard.

Optional safety upgrades include a surround-view camera system, parking assistance with automatic braking, rear cross-traffic automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist. The Technology Package also adds lane-change assist and front cross-traffic alert. One caveat to keep in mind is that the safety record is not complete, so you should not assume every crash-test category has been fully published.

Should I buy a 2026 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Lexus refreshed the IS for 2026 with updated digital instrumentation, infotainment, driver-assistance tech, and a re-tuned chassis.

The bottom line: If you want the most modern version of the IS with the latest cabin tech and a refined driving feel, the 2026 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but you’ll be giving up some of the 2026 refresh and its updated equipment.
