New & Used 2026 Lexus IS for Sale nearBakersfield, CA

Is the 2026 Lexus IS a good car?

The 2026 Lexus IS earns a 6.8/10 expert rating, and it’s a good fit if you want a small luxury sports sedan that blends driving enjoyment with a premium cabin and a strong reliability reputation. The standout strength is Performance at 8/10.

Lexus refreshed the IS for 2026 with updated digital instrumentation, infotainment, driver-assistance tech, and revised exterior and interior design, while also re-tuning the steering and suspension. That gives the car a more modern feel without losing the character that defines the model. The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and limited cargo space, plus incomplete safety ratings.

For used-car shoppers, the market signal is still solid, with 42.8% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2026 Lexus IS reliable?

The 2026 Lexus IS is presented as a strong reliability play, with the model’s long-standing reputation for reliability called out directly in the overview and expert verdict. The expert review also says that, with proper maintenance, it will likely last a long time without requiring many repairs.

The performance write-up reinforces that impression by describing the V6 as smooth and refined, and by noting that the car showed an uncanny amount of structural rigidity in testing. On the ownership side, Lexus includes two complimentary scheduled maintenance visits, though both happen during the first year.

For used buyers, the long-term risk is more about operating costs than durability, since poor fuel economy can make ownership more expensive over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Lexus IS?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a car with options or a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, because the IS is a sports sedan where suspension feel, brake condition, and interior wear can matter as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup is simplified to the IS 350, with three trim levels wearing F Sport nomenclature. The F Sport Design is the least expensive, the F Sport adds a firmer suspension and a more performance-focused setup, and the F Sport Special Appearance Package is a limited-production model. Base-trim equipment is not spelled out as a separate stripped model, so compare the F Sport Design carefully against the F Sport if you want the best balance of price and capability.
• Powertrain: The IS 350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 311 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel-drive models use an eight-speed automatic, while all-wheel-drive models use a six-speed automatic. The V6 is described as smooth and refined, and the car is EPA-rated at 22 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, pedestrian/cyclist/motorcyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, intersection/oncoming vehicle assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and a safe-exit warning system are also standard. Optional upgrades include a surround-view camera system, parking assistance with automatic braking, rear cross-traffic automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The cabin gets dual 12.3-inch displays, including a digital driver display and a touchscreen with Lexus Interface software. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system also supports connected services such as navigation, remote start, and an SOS emergency button depending on the plan.
• Fuel efficiency: The IS 350 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg combined, and the review notes that the fuel bill can be a real concern, especially for city driving.

Which 2026 Lexus IS trim should I buy?

The 2026 Lexus IS is offered in 3 trim levels: F Sport Design, F Sport, and F Sport Special Appearance Package.

Here’s the short version:

• F Sport Design: This is the least expensive way into the lineup, and it makes sense if you want the IS 350’s V6 power and premium feel without paying for the more performance-focused hardware. It’s the value-oriented choice if you care more about the core driving experience than extra chassis tuning.
• F Sport: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a firmer suspension and can be paired with the optional Handling Package, which brings a limited-slip rear differential, a performance-tuned adaptive suspension, and additional driving modes. If you want the most complete version of the IS 350’s sporty character, this is the one to target.
• F Sport Special Appearance Package: This limited-production model is for you if styling exclusivity matters more than value. It’s the most niche choice in the lineup, so it makes sense mainly if you want something that stands out visually.

The optional Technology Package adds useful safety features, including lane-change assist and front cross-traffic alert.

Is the 2026 Lexus IS safe?

The 2026 Lexus IS has incomplete safety ratings, with IIHS results only partially published and no NHTSA ratings published at the time of writing.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard, and it brings a long list of driver-assistance features: adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, pedestrian/cyclist/motorcyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, intersection/oncoming vehicle assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and a safe-exit warning system are also standard.

The caveat is that safety ratings are incomplete, and the published IIHS results include a Marginal score in the moderate overlap front crash test, along with Good or Acceptable headlight ratings depending on trim level.

Should I buy a 2026 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 42.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Lexus refreshed the IS for 2026 with updated digital instrumentation, infotainment, driver-assistance tech, and revised steering and suspension.

The bottom line: The 2026 model is the better pick if you want the updated cabin, the latest tech, and the simplified V6-only lineup. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but you’ll be giving up the 2026 refresh and its more modern feel.
